Julia Stoops is the Author of Parts per Million (Forest Avenue Press, 2018), an activist-adventure novel set in Portland, Oregon during the buildup to the invasion of Iraq. Parts per Million was a finalist for the PEN Bellwether Prize for Socially Engaged Fiction. Reviewers call Parts per Million “kaleidoscopic” and “an ambitious first book.” Also: - "urgent and humane" - “a cry for justice and a journey through the heart” - “reads like the bastard offspring of Graham Greene and Naomi Klein” - “one of the origin stories of the resistance, and a primer for the fight to come” - “shows how Trump's America simply picks up where the Bush era left off” - “it’s a thriller and a novel about a friendship in peril and it’s a critique of protest culture and it’s a love letter to those who are willing to earnestly fight for what they believe, even when it seems that everyone else has given up.” Julia Stoops was born in Samoa to New Zealand parents, and grew up in Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Washington, D.C. She has lived in Portland, Oregon since 1994. She has received Oregon Arts Commission fellowships for visual arts and literature, and was a resident at the Ucross Foundation in 2016.
