Darach MacDonald has been a professional journalist since 1976 for newspapers in Ireland (Irish Press, Sunday Tribune, Irish Independent, Hibernia) and in Canada (Waterloo Region Record). Most recently, he was the four times ‘Newspaper of the Year’ award-winning editor of the Ulster Herald based in Omagh. He has also contributed to many other newspapers and magazines including the Irish Times, Belfast Telegraph, Independent on Sunday, Ireland on Sunday, Irish Voice and Washington Times. Darach’s books are The Sons of Levi (1998); The Chosen Fews: Exploding Myths in South Armagh (2000); Blood & Thunder: Inside an Ulster Protestant Band (2010); and Tóchar: Walking Ireland’s Ancient Pilgrim Paths (2013). Darach completed his B.A. (1975, English & History) and M.A. (1976, History) at University College Dublin and is currently a PhD research student in the School of Creative Arts at the University of Ulster’s Magee campus in Derry City. His doctoral research explores Ulster Loyalist culture and identity.
