Not for me
These fairytales are very repetitive in nature and many of them repeat themselves over and over. A common trend is something happening the exact same way. A bird lamenting for a rose, death punishing avarice, egoman pushing his friend around, birdhostage, soul nagging, etc.
I can't enjoy these, and I don't see how Oscar Wilde is anything unique in his writings. The morals are extremely on the nose and the writing drags.
The performance had varying audio levels. One performer I could barely hear with max volume, then proceeded by the loudest one yet making me hurt and rapidly lowering the volume.

Very satisfactory short listen
I had never read this quaint little work by Oscar Wilde before and I was not disappointed by it one bit. A collection of charming, blue-hued fairy tales brought to life by a stellar cast of readers.

What a lovely surprise...
I downloaded this free offer with no great expectations, but what a lovely surprise I got. I was in one of those moods where I couldn’t settle to concentrate getting into a new book so decided to give this a go. Almost at once I was captivated, completely enraptured by these new to me tales read so beautifully. Until the last one - The Selfish Giant. As a young teacher of 5 year olds I was coerced into basing thematic work on this story and it was definitely not a resounding success. That’s very personal though! This was a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Good but not perfect
Some of the stories are better than others and are often sad (lots of broken hearts), but worth listening to, especially with all-star list of narrators.

What a cast!
The cast of this download reads like someones dream-team! I have always loved Judi Dench, but to have her AND Jeremy Irons AND Joanna Lumley...! And to have Elaine Stritch and Donald Sinden re-teamed! I had not heard of Robert Harris before, but after I looked him up (Sir John Gielgud said that his "was the greatest voice he had ever heard") it must have been a real coup to have recorded him reading such a tragic, beautiful story. These stories are wonderful, to to have such an A+ cast reading them - perfection! The definitive collection, in my opinion.

A cool collection
This collection of fairy tales penned by Oscar Wilde were dark, cynical and very entertaining. The star studded cast of narrators was pretty cool too.
