THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Grand Admiral Thrawn faces the ultimate test of his loyalty to the Empire in this epic Star Wars novel from bestselling author Timothy Zahn.

"If I were to serve the Empire, you would command my allegiance."

Such was the promise Grand Admiral Thrawn made to Emperor Palpatine at their first meeting. Since then, Thrawn has been one of the Empire's most effective instruments, pursuing its enemies to the very edges of the known galaxy. But as keen a weapon as Thrawn has become, the Emperor dreams of something far more destructive.

Now, as Thrawn's TIE defender program is halted in favor of Director Krennic's secret Death Star project, he realizes that the balance of power in the Empire is measured by more than just military acumen or tactical efficiency. Even the greatest intellect can hardly compete with the power to annihilate entire planets.

As Thrawn works to secure his place in the Imperial hierarchy, his former protégé Eli Vanto returns with a dire warning about Thrawn's homeworld. Thrawn's mastery of strategy must guide him through an impossible choice: duty to the Chiss Ascendancy, or fealty to the Empire he has sworn to serve. Even if the right choice means committing treason...

Marc Thomson & Timothy Zahn are perfect!

A gripping and thrilling story that is magnificently brought to life by Mark Thompson. Seriously though he perfectly voices Thrawn, Krennic, Tarkin and the Emperor... Who can't he voice! You love the returning characters even more and get to know some really interesting newbies too! Fantastic read/listen, highly recommend!!

A must read for SW fans and Rebels fans!

This Thrawn trilogy ends up fitting perfectly with what is happening in the Rebels animated series and gives a great insight into who Thrawn is.

Sherlock Holmes in Space

Sherlock Holmes meets Star Wars in the guise of the Alien Thrawn. If Arthur Conan Doyle was asked to write a series for Star Wars, it wouldn't fall far of Zahn's Thrawn. A great story that keeps spiraling down deeper into mystery.

Superb story. Thrawn and Zahn at their best

Marc Thompson and Timothy Zahn combine once again to produce the best Thrawn story in Canon and continue with entertaining deductions and a great cast of supporting characters. Highly recommended.

Great story

The book itself was great. but the intensely American reader was immersion breaking, and he had questionable pronunciation at times. A particular example was minutiae pronounced 'minoosha'.

He also seems to have no idea what sarcasm is, as he regularly bulldozed through any sort of sarcastic joke by reading it far too literally.

Thrawn at its best!

His tactical genius is unprecedented, his calmness is badass. Thrawn is the best villain Star Wars universe has.

Marc Thompson's performance is stellar as always.

Recommended.

That being said, [SPOILERS] ahead, both for this book and Thrawn: Ascendancy trilogy.

I have one problem with this trilogy compared to prequel trilogy. The way Ar'Alani was angry with Thrawn is unrealistic. She is his friend, he couldn't have known she's on a mission that deep in Imperial space, and she is one of the few who knew why he left the Ascendancy. She was one of Thrawn's closest people.

Other problem are the Grysks. In whole Ascendancy trilogy, they hide their faces and are willing to blow themselves to pieces before allowing anyone to identify them. And they have explosives in their armors. They seem much smaller threat here than they do with Jixtus in prequels.

But all in all, as a book and as a part of this trilogy, it's excellent.

Solid end to trilogy (Miss Moneypenny)

All things considered this was a satisfactory ending to a fine Star Wars trilogy, not as good as the first but better than the second.

Performance wise I really enjoyed this, Marc Thompson harnessing his inner Sean Connery on Grand Admiral Savit a highlight, much better than the whiny Padme from Alliances.

Treason really sets up future instalments by planting the dread and foreboding of the Grysks and the plot development of Vanto leaves good opportunities.

On to the prequel trilogy next for me….
