Summary

Miss Mildred Percy inherits a dragon.

Ah, but we’ve already got ahead of ourselves…

Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg.

The egg—as eggs are wont to do—decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.”

But England has not seen a dragon since…well, ever. And now Mildred must contend with raising a dragon (that should not exist), kindling a romance (with a humble vicar), and embarking on an adventure she never thought could be hers for the taking.

A lovely gentle read

I was recommended this book on Facebook and initially thought it looked like a children’s book but it is not. I enjoyed listening to Mildred growing into herself, and the narration is outstanding (because Zara is the best!) I’ve just downloaded the second one and am already looking forward to the third.

dragons and English priority

I love the style of this book so proper and English. It's very sweet and yet fantastical all at once. Mildred grows into herself as her adventure grows and having listen to the audio I once again was treated to Zara Ramm's beautiful and captivating reading style.

rambling dialogue

narrator is superb
story is OK
writing is awful, full of unnecessary rambling designed I suppose to pad out the pages

Rambling interminably

Musings on the same event or thoughts went on for whole chapters, I got so bored with it I skipped sections and still found the dialogue going on about the same thing. I don't think I'll buy the second book.
