6,000 years ago, the land is one dark forest. Its people are hunters and gatherers. They know every tree and herb and they know how to survive in a world steeped in enchantment, menace, and powerful magic. Until an ambitious and malignant force conjures up a demon; a demon so evil that it can be contained only in the body of a ferocious bear; a demon so hungry for death that it slays everything it sees; a demon with the potential to destroy the world. Only Torak and his wolf companion can save the world.©2004 Michelle Paver; (P)2004 Orion Publishing Group Ltd. "The kind of story you dream of reading and all too rarely find. The vivid prose leaps off the page." ( The Times)

Fantastic! It was an extremely pleasant surprise that this is equally appealing for adults and older children. I loved the description offered for the clothing people wore, and the animals and the scenery - it all seemed so real. A very skillful writer and Sir Ian McKellen was the perfect narrator. Excellent.

An 'un-put-downable' audiobook!

I started reading this book about 10 years ago, although in my native language Swedish, and now I'm able to hear it in my second language English! It's about my 8th time hearing/reading this book and it's still my favorite book series!

Still my favorite bookseries after 10 years!
