In the wake of the Dropsite Massacre at Isstvan V, the survivors of the Salamanders Legion searched long and hard for their fallen primarch, but to no avail. Little did they know that while Vulkan might have wished himself dead, he lives still...languishing in a hidden cell for the entertainment of a cruel gaoler, his brother Konrad Curze.

Enduring a series of hellish tortures designed to break his body and spirit, Vulkan witnesses the depths of the Night Haunter's depravity but also discovers something else - a revelation that could change the course of the entire war.

A really good story about the best primarch! I would recommend for any son of nocturne.

im starting a 30k forgeworld salamanders army now and im paying for an airbrush to paint my pyre guard properly. This is because this book changes my views on the salamanders and vulkan.

Some decent moments tied together by a lot of waffle. People run around doing a lot of things with many motivations that will be explained elsewhere in different novels, it doesn't make for a compelling narrative.

Lacklustre

This was 1 hour worth of story stretched to 13 hours plus...
Curze's character voice didn't fit at all, and constantly brought an image of Grima Wormtongue to my mind.

I only finished it through sheer determination and long commutes, and on finally getting to the last 1/2 hour, was left disappointed with no real conclusion to anything, other than lots of Space Marines died to achieve... nothing?

If this had been my introduction to WH40k books, I would not ever be picking up another.

Pulling Teeth.

It's good, but took me a couple of tries. A bit sanctimonious...but a lot of these are. Nothing to bad, nothing that fantastic.

Kind of hits you over the head with the difference of Vulcan and Curze again and again... with that said the voice actor gives Curze a Mark Hamills Joker vibe that I enjoyed.
