Once the brightest star in the Imperium and always first among his primarch brothers, Horus has dragged the Space Marine Legions into the bloodiest conflict that the galaxy has ever seen. While their allies wage war on a thousand different fronts, the XVIth Legion descend upon the Knight world of Molech - home to the ruling House Devine, and a principle stronghold of the Imperial Army.

The forces loyal to the Emperor stand ready to defy the Warmaster, but just what could have drawn Horus to attack such a well defended planet, and what might he be willing to sacrifice to fulfill his own dark destiny?

This book has some great moments and does move the overall story forward. Some bits in particular are critical to the overall story. Only reason I didn’t like it is there is a lot that happens before the book really gets going.

A keystone book in the Horus Heresy series

Lots of great lore and mystery unlocked by the war master, I have to say the more I read of the heresy the more I sympathise with the so called traitors

Great narration and superb tale

Astartes beginnings!

I’m having to buy the book to clean my mind of the voice acting. Great story, powerful moments - setting narrated beautifully by Armstrong - only he then goes on to voice the space marines like characters from black adder. They all sound like pompous British war captains from the trenches! Oh I say there, good shot Horus old chap! Tally ho!

Really ruined some big reveals and made following the characters hard.

Captain Darling strikes again - tally ho!!

....though some short stories need reading in advance to fully appreciate the story. Plenty of action and further secrets and history revealed. Definitely one not to skip.

Great next installment....

Perfectly palatable however nothing special despite the relative significance of the events to the overall story

Just fine
