What price is too high for survival?

Petrograd, 1917. Eighteen-year-old Valentina Kalinina’s life of aristocratic privilege is shattered in an instant when Bolshevik rebels storm her home. Her father is murdered before her eyes, her beloved fiancé Alexei falls to a revolutionary’s bayonet, and Valentina barely escapes to England with her life. Stranded in a foreign country with no money or support, salvation arrives in the form of a charming cousin, Dmitri, who offers her sanctuary in his Belgravia mansion. Valentina believes her nightmare is over, until she realizes that Dmitri’s generosity comes at a horrifying price…

Present day. When archaeologist Quinn Allenby discovers a skeleton sealed behind a wardrobe in a London house, she expects another routine investigation. But the moment she touches a delicate Fabergé necklace, Quinn is thrust into Valentina’s world of revolution and betrayal. As Quinn pieces together the Russian girl’s desperate story while juggling new motherhood, she realizes that exposing the truth about the mysterious skeleton will have devastating consequences for her own future…

Fans of Diana Gabaldon, Barbara Erskine, and Susanna Kearsley will devour this gripping story of survival, betrayal, and the dangerous lengths we go to protect those we love.

This instalment takes us back to the Russian Revolution ... Irina Shapiro certainly sets a good understanding of the country and times!
Whilst in contrast Quinns present day story continues with intrigue and fascinating twists and turns.
I can not recommend this series enough!

Historically detailed crime fiction right up my street . Brilliantly written , a bit of everything in the story . Well read . Great escape to another world after a long day at work . I will be downloading the other tittles in the series.

The Unseen by Irina Shapiro is probably my favorite book by the the author that I have listened to so far. I love this past/present story-line. 1917 Russian Revolution has intrigued me with the stories of Anastasia. Granted this book has nothing to do with Anastasia other than the time period. I was immediately pulled into Quinn's search for her sister, the walled off bathroom with the body in the tub, and the characters from the past. It's brilliant how the author weaves things together. The imagery is this book is well done, along with the details. I loved how the author included the suffragettes into this book, and how women's rights were so limited around 1920 in London. Wendy Wolfson's performance was spectacular. She has distinguishable voices for the various characters, and I loved her Russian accents. Echoes from the Past series are all standalone books, but one really gets the full effect listening to each individual book. I highly recommend both this book and the series. I cannot wait for the next one.

This book continues the series but with a twist. It introduces a past in Russia.

In the effort to unravel the mystery of a skeleton discovered in a tub Quinn discovers a long and sordid history of the family that involves the family of the owner of a home where a reckless has been passed down. The story is very well done and keeps the listener in suspense throughout. The narration is very good. This entire series has been exceptional and very entertaining.
