Are some secrets worth dying for?

Ireland, 1588. Rafael de Silva washes ashore on an Irish beach after a catastrophic shipwreck, carrying only his secret Jewish faith and a golden hamsa. He is starving and desperate when he meets Aisling O’Rourke, a local chieftain’s niece, and experiences a blinding desire he has never felt before. But their love is impossible, and when Rafael’s precious hamsa is discovered, he faces a terrible choice: admit to a secret that could see him nailed to a cross or watch an innocent man die in his place.

Present day. The discovery of a hamsa amulet beside crucified remains near an Irish castle is a puzzle to Quinn Allenby until her psychic gift connects her to the artifact’s terrible history. But as she pieces together Rafael’s story, her twin sister’s arrival with devastating secrets forces Quinn to confront a painful truth: some betrayals span generations, and the past has a way of demanding payment from the living.

A haunting tale of religious persecution, forbidden love, and family secrets that echo through the centuries. The next addictive listen for fans of Diana Gabaldon, Susanna Kearsley, and Barbara Erskine.

I’m really enjoying this series, but this story was my least favourite. Not a huge amount really happened in either timeline.

The narrator has definitely improved intonation as the series has progressed. I find it hard to believe that 1.0x speed is the recorded speed, it’s unnaturally slow. 1.2x speed must be the recorded speed. I recommend listening to these in 1.5 - 1.7x speed as it helps with some of the intonation.

I have yet again really enjoyed listening to this intriguing story from this series. The author, characters and narrator were fabulous as usual.

Yet another great listening experience from this series.

Quinns story goes from strength to strength and the echoes from the past take us back to a time that reverberates through today. Yet another fantastic continuation. I will have to wait a while for the next to be written now!
