Her career on the line and an innocent woman charged with murder. Can she save them both?

As bogus corruption charges loom over her, DS Kat Ballantyne finds herself deskbound and stuck with cold cases. Her hated boss, DI Carver, has given her just one week to explain how £50,000 found its way into her bank account. If she can’t, she’ll be lucky to have a desk at all.

Then a close friend calls her from a murder scene, claiming to have strangled a local gangster’s wife. Kat has no choice but to disobey orders and investigate. Despite overwhelming forensic evidence supporting her friend’s confession, something still doesn’t add up…

With the clock against her, can Kat unmask her unwelcome benefactor, save her career and find the real killer before an innocent woman pays the ultimate price?

Kat finds herself racing against not just one clock, but two. One on her career and one for her innocent friend who is about to be charged with murder, it's fast paced and high stakes as she comes close to running out of time on both clocks. But whilst she gets answers and "solves" both cases, Kat is left with more questions about the money trail and the why, disappointment with her senior officers and the worry of a life hanging in the balance....a life she put in danger in the first place!
Twisted, intriguing and like a sticky tangled web this book keeps you guessing whilst keeping you hooked. There are the cast members we hate, those we like and then those who surprise you at the most unexpected times, I listened to this on Audible with Kindle Unlimited, I have already downloaded book 4 as I cannot wait for the outcome of our injured detective.

Tick, tick, tick...

The end left everything up in the air
Blah blah blah. blah blah I hope there will be another book

The mystery of the money travels through the book but we are still none the wiser

I am just binge listening to this series. The detective and her team work well together - the one thing I struggle with like with the other books is how she bypasses her line manager. I know that the relationship is very taut with the potential corruption etc, it just feels wrong but the story wouldn't work itself.

The crime itself is complex and draws you in alongside the personal issue where Kat is under investigation. The family dynamic is so toxic.

Brilliant series
