The clock is ticking…

For Detective Chief Inspector Ryan, the stakes have never been higher. Most of the world thinks he’s dead, killed by an assasin's rifle in his own home. But another man took the bullet intended for him, and now Ryan’s living on borrowed time. As long as he stays ‘dead’, in the sanctuary of his parents’ home in Devon, there’s a chance to find the people behind the deadly killing network. It’s only a matter of time before his secret’s uncovered, and nowhere will be safe.

Back in Northumberland, Ryan’s team are called in to investigate the mysterious death of a man in Alnwick, who collapsed yards from the walls of its Mediaeval castle. When a second person is rushed to hospital with the same symptoms, her life hangs in the balance unless they can discover the toxic substance that’s killing her. For DCs Lowerson and Reed, there’s only one place to look for inspiration—the Poison Garden…

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit, set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape.

I absolutely love the DCI Ryan series and Jonathan Keeble's narration.

What truly makes these detective novels unique is the relationships in DCI Ryan's team. If you're going to invest your time and heart into this series, definitely start at book 1 'Holy Island'.

It's all about the relationships

I love this series and can’t wait for the next instalment. I don’t know how LJ Ross comes up with these plots, twists and turns, you are constantly kept wondering how things will be link, who did it etc. I love the characters, their relationships, banter, emotions and personal traumas, a story with a story. Excellent listen by a great narrator that brings the characters alive.

More twists and turns as expected with this series but still kept guessing!!

writing as brill as ever by LJ Ross. but the who done it wasn't enough for me. I wanted more of the antagonist confused feeling. I don't mind who they chose but we needed more to help the tension. Jonathan reads and presents the story with expert talent. well done.

long awaited end to a cliff hanger
