From its beginnings as a human-alien story of first contact, the Foreigner series has become a true science fiction odyssey. The ninth book in the epic series, and the third book in the third Foreigner trilogy, Deliverer is a worthy contribution to Cherryh's magnum opus that is destined to be a classic.

The odyssey continues - the epic tale of the survivors of a spacecraft that crash-landed on a planet inhabited by a hostile, sentient alien race. Now in the aftermath of a civil war, the world of the atevi is still perilously unstable. As atevi and humans seek to coexist in peace, the fragility of the situation worsens as the world of the atevi is further fragmented into different camps.

Back on the world again and with the coup defeated, things don’t settle down for Bren Cameron. In this book young Cajeiri becomes an alternate first person character, and chafes at life planet side until the major drama unfolds - and he gets to put into practice skills picked up from human movies!

C.J. Cherryh writes in a lucid style, full of delightful phrasings that percolates in your imagination for a long time - the mark of a quality writer.

The performance is uneven - generally good, many voices are excellently done and totally apt for the character. Some voices the performer struggles with, which makes the listening experience less enjoyable. And then there’s the strangely villainous voice chosen for the powerful, intelligent, and far seeing ruler of the Aishidi’tat, Taibini. So strange and off-putting!
