Hogmanay. New Year's Eve. A dead teenager, another missing. One hell of a case.

Meet DS Vicky Dodds. Settling down for a nice Hogmanay with her daughter and her best friend, a phone call pulls DS Vicky Dodds into work and to a deadly new case.

A teenage girl, her body cooling in a cold, dark supermarket car park. Found next to her friend’s car, but the driver’s missing too—has the killer taken her? Or is she the killer?

As the clock ticks down, Vicky digs deep as she investigates Dundee’s grim underbelly, and shows real blood and guts as she cuts through the lies of teenagers and a colleague’s furious rage in her pursuit of the truth.

In a revised 2024 edition, BLOOD & GUTS introduces the explosive crime thriller series from bestselling author, Ed James, one of Scottish crime fiction’s grittiest writers. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, JD Kirk, James Oswald and Stuart MacBride.

Totally loved this boom .. great series this will be and with a great author and the best narrator , I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series

Brilliant

Is the narration on this a joke? Every time I put it on I cringed at the male voices. Extremely off putting.

Awful Narration

Great narrator as always but took me a while to get used to the different detective. A decent story and I will try second book.

A New Detective

The narrator’s accent which was more Edinburgh/west coast than Dundee and Angus was off putting. Especially when trying to emulate the lowlife characters and gave them a more weegie nasal voice. Angus is normally very good in the other Ed James stories but not in this one.

Good storyline

Strong theme and good overall story idea, but as the book developed (and got more complicated) I felt increasingly that it would have been impossible to cram all that work into one evening. Poor Vicky was back and two across several locations in one evening and it felt a bit ridiculous. But overall it was worth a listen. Angus King brilliant narrator as always.

Intriguing story, complex timeline
