Ellie Nelson finds key evidence for a case she was ordered to close. Her persistence results in her being fired and the evidence taken from her, but not before she’d gotten a glimpse. What Ellie knows makes her a target of a Denver-Kansas City crime family and a person of interest for the FBI task force that is investigating them. Ellie has to find a way to keep her feelings for one of the FBI agents in check, stay one step ahead of the mob, and figure out what to do with the rest of her life. 

Ellie Nelson has left her legal career in Denver behind and opened an art gallery and studio in Lake of the Ozarks. After Ellie witnesses the murder of a beloved studio artist, she finds herself right in the middle of the search for a stolen Van Gogh that brings thieves, assassins, the FBI, and the Interpol to her gallery.

Ellie Nelson gets persuaded to audition for a reality TV show about Confederate gold hidden in the Lake of the Ozarks. Hollywood, the FBI, Civil War reenactors, and a salvage team are all thrown together in the search for stolen treasure. When Ellie discovers a dead body on the set, her life is in jeopardy until she solves not only the murder but a 150-year-old mystery as well.

A plein air painting class is interrupted when Ellie Nelson spots a body floating in the waters below Bagnell Dam in the Lake of the Ozarks. Ellie once again becomes the target of a Denver-Kansas City crime family and finds herself in the protective custody of her FBI boyfriend, Special Agent Cord Sinclair. While working together to figure out who is after Ellie, the couple also discovers what is most important to them...each other.
