The Cybercab Report tracks the growth of Tesla's Full Self-Driving Cybercab fleet, week by week. We count the cars, read the release notes, and break down what each new software update actually changes - from public robotaxi rides in Austin to the features landing in customer cars.Daniel Aharonoff Politics & Government
  • Cybercab Is Now the Majority: Texas Robotaxi Registry Crosses 1,000
    28 Oct 2026

The Texas robotaxi registry has crossed 1,000 vehicles, and for the first time the purpose-built Cybercab is the majority of the fleet. The Texas DMV listing for Tesla Robotaxi LLC shows 1,051 authorized vehicles as of October 27: 544 two-seat Cybercabs against 507 Model Ys.

    In this episode:

    - The mix flip: 319 two-seaters and 420 Model Ys on October 9 (739 total) to 544 and 507 (1,051 total) - 312 vehicles added in under three weeks, with the purpose-built share up from about 43% to about 52%

    - Registration velocity: 418 two-seaters added in 30 days, 248 in the past week, 81 in a single day - a production line running ahead of deployments

    - The six-market unsupervised map: 272 square miles in Austin, 254 in Houston after Monday's tenfold expansion, 81 in Dallas, 31 in Miami, 26 in Orlando, 24 in Tampa - plus Elon Musk promising Miami and Tampa beach coverage

    - Wall Street reacts: shares up as much as 4.1% Tuesday to $407.50, the highest since July 10, after a Barclays upgrade

    - The caveats: the registry lists VINs, not active cars - and Tesla's answers to NHTSA's Cybercab self-certification special order are due Friday, October 30

  • Built Faster Than It Can Deploy: Cybercab Line Outpaces Rollout, Austin Edges Waymo
    27 Oct 2026

Tesla's Cybercab line at Giga Texas is now building the purpose-built two-seater faster than robotaxi deployments can absorb it, vehicle engineering chief Lars Moravy told Munro Live - while in Austin, the driverless fleet logged 438,000 unsupervised miles in the week ending October 18, edging past Waymo's Austin weekly average for the first time.

    In this episode:

    - Moravy: "We actually don't run the line every day" - the production line is outpacing robotaxi deployments

    - About 25 fully automated final-assembly stations, close to 80% line automation, no paint shop, and a 10-second cycle goal: one car every 10 seconds

    - 500,000-mile design life, swappable 4680 modules in a steel enclosure, wireless battery management, and an A-minus pack grade

    - Austin's 438,000 unsupervised miles (+30% week over week) vs Waymo's roughly 406,000 Austin weekly average - and why the caveats still matter

    - Texas records now list 970 registered robotaxis, 463 of them the two-seater; Houston's service map grew roughly tenfold; Dallas is on deck for November

  • Swarm at the Grand Prix: Cybercab's Biggest Weekend, Texas Registry Tops 970
    26 Oct 2026

A one-word post said it best: swarm. More than fifty Cybercabs carried United States Grand Prix crowds around Austin on Sunday, the largest gathering of Tesla robotaxis ever seen on public roads, days after the geofence stretched toward Circuit of the Americas and last call moved to 1 a.m. The same day, the Texas DMV ledger printed 43 new two-seater registrations, taking the registered fleet to 970 vehicles (about 465 Cybercabs plus 507 Model Ys) - the first independent check on the self-published miles behind Bank of America's bull case. Houston's geofence grew this morning with a rocket-shaped boundary, and riders can now pull up a live rear camera view. Daniel Aharonoff's The Cybercab Report has the numbers.
