Tesla's Cybercab line at Giga Texas is now building the purpose-built two-seater faster than robotaxi deployments can absorb it, vehicle engineering chief Lars Moravy told Munro Live - while in Austin, the driverless fleet logged 438,000 unsupervised miles in the week ending October 18, edging past Waymo's Austin weekly average for the first time.
In this episode:
- Moravy: "We actually don't run the line every day" - the production line is outpacing robotaxi deployments
- About 25 fully automated final-assembly stations, close to 80% line automation, no paint shop, and a 10-second cycle goal: one car every 10 seconds
- 500,000-mile design life, swappable 4680 modules in a steel enclosure, wireless battery management, and an A-minus pack grade
- Austin's 438,000 unsupervised miles (+30% week over week) vs Waymo's roughly 406,000 Austin weekly average - and why the caveats still matter
- Texas records now list 970 registered robotaxis, 463 of them the two-seater; Houston's service map grew roughly tenfold; Dallas is on deck for November
