Summary

“Lengard is a secret government facility for extraordinary people,” they told me.

I believed them. That was my mistake.

There isn’t anyone else in the world like me.

I’m different. I’m an anomaly. I’m a monster.

For two years, six months, fourteen days, eleven hours and sixteen minutes, Subject Six-Eight-Four - ‘Jane Doe’ - has been locked away and experimented on, without uttering a single word.

As Jane’s resolve begins to crack under the influence of her new - and unexpectedly kind - evaluator, she uncovers the truth about Lengard’s mysterious ‘program’, discovering that her own secret is at the heart of a sinister plot...and one wrong move, one wrong word, could change the world.

Critic reviews

"Compulsively readable, compellingly narrated, and so full of twists and turns that I couldn't put it down until I'd turned the final page. I loved every sentence of Whisper." (Sarah J. Maas, #1 New York Times and USA Today best-selling author of the Throne of Glass series)

"A gripping and heart wrenching tale. I was enthralled." (Maria Snyder, New York Times best-selling author)

Not the best, or worst

This story is a little bit frustrating to me and I don't know why. It has all the usual things I like in a book but it felt off to me and I nearly gave up so many times - I would have if I hadn't listened to and absolutely loved another series by the same author, so kept telling myself to wait it out.
I am going to listen to the next in the series now because the final few chapters actually drew me in and peaked my interest. Perhaps book 1 was mostly background and book 2 is the 'better' one. So I give it 4 stars because I feel I must have liked it more than I thought otherwise I wouldn't consider listening to book 2 - never mind have it downloaded and ready to go right now, lol.

Superb

Not my usual book genre but thought I would give it a try and I was more than pleased. I found it had an interesting storyline which held my interest constantly and I think it’s well worth a listen.
Some good characters and decent narration.
Go on give it a go, it’s free what do you have to lose .

really enjoyed the voice of the reader

story was good but not amazing. I found plot holes in the main characters abilities which where explained but cheaply. was good though and wasn't too predictable, kept me hanging on for more. maybe target audience is teenage girls which I don't fit into. still I'll be finishing the next audio book to find out what happens

monotone narration

I was enjoying the story but the monotone flat delivery the narrator was to much to take

Easy listen

It was early on that I thought this seems like a children’s book due to its simplicity and theme. I went back and checked the genre and it is indeed “young adult”. It was entertaining nonetheless, an easy listen with nothing taxing and inoffensive. The narrator was very good and that’s really what made me finish the book. It’s not a genre I would consciously choose.

nice premise but vaguely disappointing

story intrigued me enough to finish, overall I liked the premise. Yet I found the main character to be a bit too close to a mary sue for my liking and other characters were very much glossed over.
information was just dumped out in places and pacing ruined by getting stuck in the main characters thoughts, who is a bit oblivious. Too avoid spoilers I'll just say there was a big plot hole at the end that I found very frustrating.

The narrator was ok, but I found her to be a bit monotonous at times.

However, saying all that I'm interested enough to listen to the next but only as it is included free at the moment
