The mystery of the money travels through the book but we are still none the wiser

I am just binge listening to this series. The detective and her team work well together - the one thing I struggle with like with the other books is how she bypasses her line manager. I know that the relationship is very taut with the potential corruption etc, it just feels wrong but the story wouldn't work itself.

The crime itself is complex and draws you in alongside the personal issue where Kat is under investigation. The family dynamic is so toxic.
