Summary

Levi Black has mostly recovered from the events of a year ago. The only lingering effects are that he’s much more well-known in York than he’d like to be, and he’s a lot more cautious about walking around his house naked.

However, those events brought him the capricious and fascinating Blue, so he’s not complaining. On the contrary, he’s happy, in love, and looking forward to Blue finally moving in with him. And if sometimes he wonders what Blue sees in a boring cartoonist, he keeps that to himself.

Blue Billings is finally ready to throw off the memories of his past and move in with the person who means the most in the world to him. His psychic abilities have grown in the last year to his mentor Tom's consternation, but Blue is determined to look on the bright side. He’s also focused on ignoring all the warning signs that he’s received lately.

However, even deeply buried secrets have a way of rising to the surface. And when a surprise from Blue’s past turns up and draws them away to a lonely house on the Yorkshire moors, Levi and Blue must fight for their survival once again.

From best-selling author Lily Morton comes the second book in the Black & Blue series. The books are intended to be listened to in order.

excellent narration.

I absolutely loved this, listened to it til the early hours of the morning. I was hooked from the start. I had to find out what happened. The twists and turns were mind blowing!! The plot was woven together in such a way, that the mystery and excitement never waned. The narration was first class. Definitely recommended.

Love Blue and Levi

Blue and Levi have been together some time from the last book and stronger together. Then something that neither expected happen and they find themselves in a strange house surrounded by people that feel more like enemies than friends. Be prepared for a wild ride!

Amazing

I adore both author and narrator here and Blue and Levi are one of my favorite of Ms. Morton’s couples. This story intriguingly builds on Book 1 Blue Billings and we see a whole different side to Blue and Levi as Blue’s psychic abilities continue to grow and increase in power. I don’t like horror, scary stuff, no way not me. However, this ghost love story is unputdownable despite the scary parts, especially because Ms. Morton knows how to balance things out with humor.

Joel Leslie is an amazingly talented narrator and I enjoy his vocal performances across the board. But there’s something undefinably different and special about the way he narrates Ms. Morton’s books. It’s hard to improve on Ms. Morton’s writing but Mr. Leslie manages to take it to the next level, completely immersing us in an altogether unusual experience.

Ghostly Endeavours.

MM, Paranormal romance, book 2 in the series but I've not listened to or read book 1. I don't feel that it impacted on my enjoyment or understanding of The Quiet House as so much information was given throughout, truly great storytelling with great characters and lots of twists and things that go 'bump in the night'. Joel Leslie's narration was superb and I could not fault any of his characters voices/accents. Definitely a story I will listen to again and again.

Levi and Blue are back!

Blue, Blue, Blue. Dearest Blue. You think you’ve got your stuff together. You’re moving in with Levi (finally!), your psychic abilities are growing, and you’re doing well with Tom at the bookstore. Life’s pretty fricking amazing, right? Well, until your past shows up at your doorstep with an offer you can’t refuse.

Levi, Levi, Levi. Dearest Levi. That cartoon career is going well, right? And your darling Blue is moving in, the ghost Rosalind is (mostly) behaving, and things are moving forward. Life’s pretty fricking amazing, right? Except you knew it couldn’t last. You didn’t know how, but you knew – deep in your heart – that the other shoe was going to drop. You just didn’t see it being someone from Blue’s past.

The offer? Spend a few nights in a mansion on the Yorkshire moor. There’s money involved, but there’s also prestige. You can say you defeated the ghosts. There’s also redemption. Blue can finally confront his past and move forward once and for all. Sounds simple, right?

Well, sure. If you ignore all the horrible ghosts. Each has a story more depressing. Endured horrific circumstances in life, suffered ignominious deaths, and are tormented in the spirit world. They want revenge, and they’ll do just about anything to get it. Levi and Blue are standing in the way of that vengeance.

There is a lot going on in this book but, as I’ve come to expect from Lily Morton, plenty of humor as well. For instance, I wouldn’t have had sex in that mansion for all the money in the world. Seems our two heroes didn’t feel that way. I mean, aren’t all those ghosts watching? I guess if you’re a voyeur it’s not so bad. Oh yea, Levi’s already been caught with his trousers down, so to speak.

There is also a lot of violence in this book. Both in current day as well as in the past. I was disturbed by some of the horrors committed in that house. But I have to say, this book entertained from the first word to the final sentence. A great and well-deserved ending.

Finally, there’s Joel Leslie. His talent matches that of Ms. Morton, and they work perfectly together. Also, his voices just work and his delivery is spot-on for this mystery with humor paranormal story. Can’t wait to see what’s coming next.

Great author performer combo

It's a given that when you put Lily Morton and Joel Leslie together it's going to be a great listen, but these Black and Blue novels are something special. Levi and Blue have a wonderful, hot relationship but Morton also manages to make this series genuinely frightening. The powers in these books aren't cute they are dangerous. Joel Leslie "gets" Morton and these characters he finds the humor, the love and the passion but also delivers on the darkness and danger.

Levi and Blue!!

The story: I enjoyed this story but listening to this right after first book in the series caused me to notice there was a little difference in both Levi and Blue than how they were in the first book. Still it was a good story and I’m glad we get to continue seeing how the relationship between Levi and Blue developed. This one wasn’t as scary before but still funny with great banter.

The Narration: Joel still does a great job keeping up with the voices he created for this series.

The Quiet House

It's a good story/listen. It didn't quite get me to the level of the first book. There was something about the narration that was distracting - the production seemed off. I enjoy Joel Leslie, but I have to have an adjustment period to get into his narrations. Once I do, it's smooth sailing. I kept being pulled out here, so I never quite found the groove. The story is excellent and worth the listen. I might have had too many expectations going in. It's still a recommendation, though.

So good

I love Lily Morton’s books and Joel Leslies narration. And this book didn’t disappoint. I’m glad I waited to listen to it because the audio book just brings the story to life. It was so fun and funny and creepy and awesome. It’s not her typical style. It of course is in keeping with the Amazing Blue Billings but not her other books. I strongly recommend this title

Weird edits

I’ve listened to a lot of Joel’s narration. He’s my favorite narrator by far, which is why I was REALLY taken aback by the weird edits in this book. I’ve never heard him do this before. Almost every five minutes or so, sometimes more, there were edits that sounded like he was speaking into a bucket. They were really jarring and took me out of the story every time. I really hope that isn’t a trend with other books after this. :-/

As for the story… ugh. It just doesn’t have the heart of the first book. Blue and Levi seem so different in this book, and the plot itself was kind of cheap. I never thought I’d think that about a Lily book… but the first book is one of my favorites by her. This one was just… really disappointing.

Regardless of all that, Joel is a master at accents and FEELING and just… acting. That’s why I finished it.

Levi and blue oh yeah, Tom too!

They are happily going about their lives when Blue sees a creepy guy a few times, it turns out it’s a harbinger or Crow, so, obviously something is brewing and not the good kind. Tom joins the 2 at an estate for a ‘job’, others from blues past are there. Eew, we don’t like them. There is a good creep factor and the defunct Hellfire club’s (rich men with too much time and power were the members) fall out from years of disgusting behavior. It’s a good story, very likable characters, I hope there are more adventures for us.

So great to go back to Black and Blue's world!

Wow what a truly lovely book 2. Wild adventures, great character development, fun (or creepy) new sidekicks, funny moments, scary/edge of your seat scenes, romance, sex... Never a dull moment. And Black and Blue's relationship is only getting better, hotter and lovelier. Joel Leslie's narration takes it to the next level, as usual. Can't wait for more adventures.

A thrilling ghost story.

The Quiet House was a thrilling and entertaining story- it was great to be back with Levi and Blue. I loved seeing them so happy together, that the craziness of everything that went down in TMaABB didn't have any lingering effects! But I'm not so sure that what happened in The Quiet House won't be staying with them for a long time to come, eek!

Ghost Adventures is my favorite television show so it was fun to "tag" along as Blue, Levi, and Tom, and other assorted paranormal investigators, explored a haunted mansion at the bequest of its owner. They definitely would have been better off with Zak, Aaron, Jay, and Billy, as opposed to the crew they were stuck with, though! The Viscount really was out of his depth when it came to his plans for his haunted hotel, putting everyone in danger. But lucky for him, he had Blue and Levi there to save the day!

I enjoyed the spooky aspect of this story, I love anything dealing with ghosts and demons and the paranormal. But when things start to get dangerous, that brings a whole other feel to things, and in The Quiet House Levi and Blue found themselves in even more peril than they were with the "death house". Thankfully they had each other, and Tom, to rely on. And surprisingly, the blast from Blue's past.

I love Joel Leslie's narration, he really is the best. His accents and performances are always spot on, and this book was no different. He had so many characters to voice- male/female/demon/ghost, and he nailed them all. So it really pains me to say this, but The Quiet House is probably the poorest, in terms of production quality, audiobook I have listened to that he's done. I couldn't get over how many edits there were, with clips having to be spliced in where parts were rerecorded. I can understand having a few here and there throughout the course of a book, so it took me by surprised with the quantity of them in this audio- there were multiples per chapter. I'm sure there are plenty of edits that happen and the listener is none the wiser, but most of these really stood out because of the difference in the sound quality. The edits never took me out of the story, but they are definitely noticeable, otherwise I'd never have mentioned them.

Blue and Levi are back!

I loved this book so much! Levi and Blue are great! I did have to slow it down a little so I could tell easier who was who as the story was being told. The story was spooky and my darn cat crept up on me during it and I about hit the ceiling he startled me so much. I guess I was totally into the scary parts.!!! such a good story. steamy parts too! loved it

Joel and Lily at their best!

I love a Lily and Joel collaboration it’s audio romance at its finest! Blue and Levi and Tom are back like an MM romcom Scooby gang. They check out a haunted house and prove its legends are real so the owner can turn it into an overpriced B&B for the eccentric and morbid! I had already read the ebook but I desperately wanted to be haunted properly by the spookiness of this book and Joel made that possible! There’s ghosts from the last living and dead a mystery to be solved and my favorite part the love between Levi and Blue grows even stronger. You don’t wanna miss this book!

More adventures, please!

I love Levi and Blue-- and their mad capped chosen family. The relationship between Levi and Blue continues in this books and is well developed. Between Lily Morton's words and Joel Leslie's narration, I really enjoyed this book. I need more adventures and "mad episodes". I recommend this book not only for the narration, but for their continued story. I hope there is more to come!
