Summary

Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

For centuries, the mountain has been used as a metaphor for the big challenges we face, especially ones that seem impossible to overcome. To scale our mountains, we actually have to do the deep internal work of excavating trauma, building resilience, and adjusting how we show up for the climb. In the end, it is not the mountain we master, but ourselves.

insights and tools

this book was recommended to me for a very long time, reading it on audio was the best solution I felt like she was talking to me and not only did she illustrate ways of self-sabotage she gave tools for the alternative. As someone with anxiety, low self-compassion with a tendency to fixate on the future and the things I need to fix...this was a healing balm and push.

Simple truth, plainly spoken, comforting and empowering

As the title says, and as per other reviews, this book is quite simply incredible. Like many other listeners I have consumed my fair share of the self help genre as I find it interesting to explore myself and how I can improve. This one is on another level. The pace and style is perfect, with the right amount of real talk but delivered with sensitivity and grace. The content is valuable, insightful and will help you find your power and inner peace. I wasn’t sure it would work but I found this book to be energizing, validating, reassuring, comforting and insightful. I hope it will also be life changing, but that part is up to me. Definitely worth purchasing and if you are a subscriber this is absolutely worth a credit - even if it helps you to learn something about someone else in your life who may be struggling. 10/10

Effortless listen, great narration, great advice

Understand myself so much more and how to actually tackle problems practically and WHY, and generally how to make the most out of my life. I've literally just finished it and want to relisten again 😭

good book interesting

Good book, interesting read. Would suggest getting this as a physical book rather than audible as lots of thought provoking questions and you really need to stop and think about it. Audible keeps playing, then you're onto another topic, so you dont get to delve deep into thoughts

Such a great listen. I have taken always so much from this book, I’m sure it’s one I’ll come back to time and time again being someone that struggles with self sabotage

a good guide to how to get out of your own way

although most of this is common sense that common sense is hidden beneath our constant catastrophising. this is plain and simple and great to listen to
