About this listen

The Expansion: Publisher's Pack includes Recon, book one, and Contact, book two.

The universe is expanding, and so is humanity’s reach.

Years after clean energy ended the world’s reliance on fossil fuels, a lull of peace encompasses all of humanity. Some think we should travel to the distant corners of the galaxy; others oppose the idea, thinking that the harnessed singularity reactors are unnatural.

When a terrorist group attacks the Lunar colony, members of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force are divided as a result of the incursion.

Years later, Lieutenant Commander Kyle Torres comes face to face with old friends, as he’s thrown into an assignment that could change everything: a reconnaissance mission with huge implications for humanity and science alike.

Since this is technically 2 books, these are fast-paced stories. Part 1 set up the story and is more of a thriller while part 2 is much more action-oriented.

There are issues with writing, it can be basic at times with little flare and there are more than a few tropes but writing sci-fi without experiencing a trope is like trying to avoid landmines. There are some nice elements to it too, even though I accused it of tropes the main characters aren't heroes from the get-go, they are grunts on the ground you get to know.

Part 2 introduces new characters and a new setting which keeps it fresh, Even though I enjoyed Part 1, Part 2 is much more captivating.

The Narrator is good to listen to. He has vocal qualities similar to Nathan Fillion. He has a lot of accents to perform and they can sometimes be a little distracting because of how pronounced they are, but most of the time it gives them real personality.

Although I'm not planning to go back to this writer straight away, I will probably check them out later

Not perfect but I really enjoyed it.
