I listened to books 1 and 2 with pleasure - beautifully narrated. Book 3 was a difficult listen and the American narrator for the Lucy James character totally spoiled it for me. In fact, that character in entirety spoiled it for me! Nevertheless, I thought I'd try book 4 which had a different American narrator for the role. Sadly, this American lady can only really do a convincing American accent and slaughters the others! (Think Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins and any of the characters in 'Allo 'Allo). I looked up the authors page and it says:

"Charles Veley and Anna Elliott, the dynamic father-daughter duo behind the Sherlock and Lucy series, skillfully blend classic detective charm with new storytelling. Charles, inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle, laid the series' foundation, infusing historical richness into Sherlock Holmes's world. Anna joined from the third book, adding fresh perspectives and deepening the series' appeal."

Aha! So that's why I can't enjoy the books from 3 onwards! If you love Sherlock Holmes, you will probably enjoy books one and two. If historical accuracy isn't terribly important and you're one of the younger generation who insist on re-writing everything to suit modern attitudes, you may well enjoy the latter books. I am too old and prefer to leave history as it was - for good or bad.

Not for fans of Sherlock Holmes

I absolutely loved the audiobooks in the series but the change in narrators has ruined it.

Why were the narrators changed??

I liked the way that Holmes & Lucy’s stories intertwined. And I liked how two narrators took turns to advance the plot telling the two sides of the adventure. The female narrator’s German & different London accents need a lot of work though and were quite distracting.

Interesting twist on a Holmes mystery

This is better than the previous book, which wasn't great at all.
The story is okay. The narration was all right. However, I was glad it was a short listen.

It was okay
