About this listen

We were watching the sky. They were already here.

The pulse hits without warning.

In one harrowingly destructive instant, a mysterious seismic pulse in the Scottish Highlands rips away all semblance of global security.

Complacency grew in the years since Dan McCarthy brought humanity into contact with intelligent aliens, but those days are gone.

When peace is shattered, fear takes over.

The stakes rise without mercy.

As the pulse's chaos spreads, it becomes painfully clear that Dan's teenage daughter Piper - a child born like no other - might hold humanity's only hope of averting total disaster.

The danger to Earth is imminent. The danger to Piper McCarthy hardly bears thinking about.

And this threat isn’t coming from the stars. This time, it’s been here all along....

New discoveries, conspiracies, and threats like nothing you've ever imagined - dive into Not Alone: The Awakening today!

Note for listeners: Stay tuned for the next book in the series Not Alone: Hidden Wonder.

Yet again a brilliant book. Loved every book in the series, not my normal type of book to choose but after listening to the first book, I’ve listened to the complete series.

Brilliant

I would have rated the performance higher if not for the appalling Welsh accent! It's a difficult accent to master but as such a key character featured throughout the book, James Chronin could have put more research and practice into it.

Listen to a few YouTube videos on welsh accents before the next book please James. Other than that, you do a masterful job.

A step up on the previous book

I remember when I first listened to Not Alone. I loved it, but thought that was the end. It was a few years later when I realised that there were sequels. Now I’m on book 7 with two more on the way. What an amazing journey this is! Thanks, Craig!

I can’t believe this series just keeps getting better

Lots of good twists. Slightly weaker than previous books but when youre already attached to characters then you get past that quickly.

One problem... the accents the narrator tries.
Throughout the series they are awful.
Italian sounds like a bad Spanish.
"Refined" British sounds like a pretentious supervillain with an almost Boston drawl.
"Northern" British (character is from near Sheffield) sounds like a London cockney nutjob.
Scottish is... barely passable if stereotypical and with incorrect stresses, making it sound forced and confused.
The coup de grace... Welsh... the guy has clearly never ever heard a Welsh accent and assumed it sounds... well... like nothing i can really describe other than confused.
I cackled laughing when later in the book it mentions an idiosyncrasy of the welsh accent.

Seriously... if youre frankly rubbish at non USA regional accents, just don't bother!

However... i can get past all that because I'm not a rabid nationalist with a mental age of 6 years.
So i enjoyed the story none the less for the parade of silly voices. 4.5/5
