About this listen

A naked woman in red high-heeled shoes is perched on the edge of Clifton Suspension Bridge with her back pressed to the safety fence, weeping into a mobile phone. Clinical psychologist Joseph O'Loughlin is only feet away, desperately trying to talk her down. She whispers, 'you don't understand,' and jumps.

Later, Joe has a visitor - the woman's teenage daughter, a runaway from boarding school. She refuses to believe that her mother would have jumped off the bridge - not only would she not commit suicide, she is terrified of heights.

Joe wants to believe her, but what would drive a woman to such a desperate act? Whose voice? What evil?

Absolutely loved it. A great read and a wonderful collection of characters. I was guessing until the end and the journey of the book was a delightful surprise, btw audible credits are so expensive I get cheaper from audibledealscom

If you only read one then this is THE one.

Could not stop listening... bedtime, care, washing up, totally enthralled.

When are we going to get more like this on Audible.

What did you like most about Shatter?

The central characters are all interesting and there is great tension in the story but some details of the abuse of children are really harrowing

What other book might you compare Shatter to, and why?

The story is not like any other I've read or listened to

Which scene did you most enjoy?

There is a scene when the central character, Joe O'Loughlin confronts his wife's boss whom he suspects of having an affair with her. It is hilarious and cringe making at the same time

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Joe's frenetic search for his daughter when she disappears

Any additional comments?

The very graphic descriptions of the abuse the perpetrator threatens on the chidren is hard to listen to but I certainly would be interesed to listen to other books by Michael Robotham

Tense but not always easy to listen to

If you could sum up Shatter in three words, what would they be?

Gripping, shocking, believable

What other book might you compare Shatter to, and why?

Watching you

Which character – as performed by Sean Barrett – was your favourite?

Joe, all of the characters came to life.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Julianne is recovered and grabs hold of Joe to ask about Charlie

Any additional comments?

Great story, really gripping with some hugely tense moments. Sean Barrett really brings it to life and the conversations between Joe and the perpetrator were read brilliantly.

This is only my second Michael Robotham novel and I enjoyed it much better than the first. The story is gripping and I wanted to keep listening. Sean Barrett's narration is very good and I would thoroughly recommend this book.

A good gripping tale
