Poor quality muffled recording initially spoils the book but you get used to it as it is an excellent story

Great story just an old recording

This was a great story that was totally spoiled by the narration. At times I was suspicious that it was just a cybot reading it, or perhaps the narrator had once recorded the dictionary and all the words were just being pieced together. I can’t believe I listened to the whole thing now but I’d already returned 2 books I hadn’t liked last month so felt I was kind of stuck with it. It’s a shame as it wasn’t reflective of the standard and quality I’ve come to associate with Audible.

Narrator was perhaps once human

A bit dated, but it is set in the 80’s. Not so sure I believe his portrayal of the Royals but who would know?
Also, being someone who was born and bred in Gosport I did take exception at a couple of factual errors. I don’t think that the Marines would have departed from Gosport (HMS Daedelas) as their base was in Portsmouth and the biggest insult was saying that the Navy military Hospital was in Portsmouth. Haslar Hospital (where we got married) is in Gosport!!
Petty points I know, the biggest detractor was the narrator’s inability to pronounce place and people names. Seamus pronounced see-mas.
Good job nobody went to Gloucester or Leicester!! A bit of “acting” in the narration wouldn’t have gone amiss either and I vaguely remember there was at least one complete mistake that obviously wasn’t picked up - although I’ve seen (heard) much worse editing mistakes in other audiobooks.

Where is lie-mington?

Terrible dull narration. I persevered as I want to to listen to all of the Jack Ryan books.
And why can American narrators not pronounce live and lived correctly for the context!!!!!

The narrator is awful

I have listened to nearly 100 audiobooks and enjoy almost every single one, this however was an exception. The story was exactly what I had hoped and expected of the Jack Ryan series... the narrator on the other hand is a different story. The most dull monosyllabic, mind numbing narration I have heard, it nearly made me give up on the book, but I felt compelled to go on as I want to continue to listen t the rest of the series.

If there is a different narrator... listen to that version.
