About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Over 1 million Discworld audiobooks sold – discover the extraordinary universe of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld like never before.

The audiobook of Hogfather is narrated by the BAFTA award-winning actor Sian Clifford (Fleabag, Vanity Fair, Quiz). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

Twas the night before Hogswatch and all through the house...something was missing.

The stockings are hanging ready, the sherry and pies are waiting by the fireplace - but where is the jolly fat man with his sack? It's not right to find Death creeping down chimneys and trying to say 'Ho ho ho' - but someone's got to bring the little kiddies their presents. Or else they might stop believing. Belief is important in Discworld, particularly on the last night of the year when the time is turning. If the real man in the red suit isn't found by morning, there won't be a morning. Ever again...

A festive feast of darkness, jolly robins and tinsel. As they say: 'You'd better watch out...'

Hogfather is the fourth book in the Death series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

'Has the energy of The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and the inventiveness of Alice in Wonderland...It has also an intelligent wit and a truly original grim and comic grasp of the nature of things'
'Our best comic novelist'
I'm addicted to Terry Pratchett'

So good to listen to this brilliantly narrated Discworld audiobook, the first of a new series. Sian Clifford captures the characters, tone and narrative drive superbly. Bill Nighy reading the famous Sir Terry footnotes is a genius idea too. Thoroughly enjoyed this. (Michael).

The Diskworld books are so special to do many of us, really pleased they are all being re-recorded as audio books, can't wait for the next one's to be released!

Sian Clifford is really very good.
She makes Mr Brown too posh, and she needs to work on her Nobby, but I've no other complaints.
Peter Serafinowicz is perfect as Death, perfect delivery.

I love the system for doing footnotes, brilliant idea, but Bill Nighy sounds a bit bored, could do with cheering up.

All in all, excellent rendition of one of my favourite books, look forward to the rest of the range 🙂

Excellent.

This has been one of my go to Christmas books since I discovered Terry Pratchett, and this audiobook recording does full justice to the magic of it. The quality is excellent and the narrators are well suited to the parts they play. The footnotes format is clever and Sian Clifford proves especially adept at taking on a vast variety of voices as she is responsible for all but Death's characterization. I thoroughly enjoyed this and eagerly anticipate the upcoming recordings of these Discworld books.

Brilliant story with excellent performances
