Summary

Stephen Leather's first hard-hitting Dan 'Spider' Shepherd thriller, set in one of the most notorious and corrupt of British prisons.

Dan 'Spider' Shepherd is used to putting his life on the line. Working for an elite undercover squad, he has lied, cheated and conned in order to bring Britain's most wanted criminals to justice.

But when a powerful drugs baron starts to kill off witnesses to his crimes, Shepherd is given his most dangerous assignment yet. He has to go undercover in a top-security prison, a world where one wrong move will mean certain death.

As Shepherd gambles everything to move in on his quarry, he soon realises that the man he is hunting is even more dangerous than the police realise. And that he is capable of striking outside the prison walls and hitting Shepherd where it hurts most.

Great book

Multiple stories neatly woven together in one compelling book. The whole series is well written and performed.

Run of the mill

This was a run of the mill thriller no major character development. It was entertaining but nothing that hasn't been done or seen before and better on other books. A strong 6 out of 10

Excellent...

This was recommended to me recently and I am so glad that I decided to listen.
Good story ... kept me listening.
Narrator is good but it took me a while to get used to the pronounced almost clipped sentences.... but it suits it somehow ...
Highly recommend.

Very well narated and some very good twists .

Very well narated which pulled you into the characters. Some good twists that changed my thought from the start of the book to the end of the book .

Started the way he continued.

Always a good plot, read with conviction. Spider is a real hero. May be not super but his efforts are commendable.

Happy when it was over.

Sorry, but I found it tedious. Narration was excellent. My main problem was that 90% of the book took place in a very limited...background. I don’t want to say much more as it will spoil the story. A couple very exciting “scenes” but otherwise, I just did not enjoy this book.
