About this listen

Uncover the dark secrets of Whitby's Forgotten Victims in this gripping new thriller by bestselling British crime author Wes Markin.

Detective Chief Inspector Frank Black has always believed that no life should be forgotten.

While consumed by the search for his missing daughter, Frank is called to the North York Moors when a decades-old body is discovered behind the cellar wall of the derelict Rusty Anchor pub.

With the help of unconventional Detective Inspector Gerry Carver, Frank delves into seedy past of the pub and its notorious poker nights, where the town's most notorious locals gathered. But as they uncover the truth, they find themselves in a dangerous game with desperate individuals who have all experienced unimaginable trauma.

As the case become more complex, Frank starts to question if he's been wrong all along.

Could it be that not everyone deserves justice?

And are some lives better off forgotten?

This is the second book in this series and i really recommend the series on many levels. My understanding of autism has also improved through the character insights.

Brilliant story! The characters personalities have developed from the first novel, and the interaction of the key characters is great. Narrator is excellent, and plot plausible. Can't wait to listen to the next in the series.

Even better than the first book

This is a gripping story well written and performed. The story of the main caricatures Frank and Gerry is intriguing as we watch their friendship grow. I love the way in which we are getting a glimpse of what it is like to live as a person living with high functioning autism. I will look out for a 3rd book in the series and hopefully more.

Gripping story would make a brilliant TV series.

There are lots of good points in this book, but almost as many annoying ones. A number of threads were played out in parallel, so for much of the story it was hard to keep track of characters, or even make sense of what was going on. It didn't help that characters almost necessarily had similar accents and I felt the narrator failed to distinguish them sufficiently. Only towards the end did I really start enjoying this book.

Clever, amusing, deep.... but
