About this listen

Julian, Dick, Anne, George and Timmy the dog find excitement and adventure wherever they go in Enid Blyton's most popular series.

In book four, the Famous Five stay at the large old house at Smuggler's Top. They discover secret hiding places, underground tunnels, and one night they catch people signalling out to sea!

Are there still smugglers at Smuggler's Top?

This is a spellbinding story as the five go to Smuggler's Top, the home of one of Dick and Julian's school fellows where Uncle Quentin has sent them whilst repairs are being done due to a tree having fallen on part of Kirrin Cottage during a severe storm. Whilst these books are pretty predictable, you just can't help but like them and once you're drawn into the plot you just want to follow the situations these five get into right to the end. True, they're also probably quite dated for today's young generation who certainly wouldn't be allowed to roam about, enjoying picnics and so on as these lot do - parents would be really concerned for their lives - but as I had one of these books read to me and a group of other lads at school, they're just as enjoyable today for me as they were back in 1973 and Jan Francis most certainly does an excellent job as narrator.
