Dead on arrival

Ex-special forces operator Amos Carver is being framed for murder.

Carver hasn't killed anyone. At least not for a few years, and certainly not in some backwoods Georgia town. He would never harm the person they're accusing him of murdering. But nobody believes him. And no one is willing to help prove otherwise.

The town might look almost dead. It might look like it's barely clinging to life. But it's very much alive. Rotten to the core. And the unknown forces running it want him dead.

They can come. They can try. But there's not a chance in hell Carver is going down without a fight.

A good book. Carver is a decent character. However, the story moves a little slowly and carver’s repeated evasive dialogue gets a little repetitive. All that said, very enjoyable and satisfying. Also, the narrator needs to learn the difference between a Brazilian and a French accent. At no point did the narrator manage to successfully sound Brazilian.

Worth the listen

I was pleasantly surprised when I ordered this book having been duped in the past by several authors claiming Reacher-esque story lines with the travelling knight errant character, but this stood out as one of the better ones I've tried. the storytelling is just deep enough to be very good and the narration for the most part is just what it needs to be. personal issue with the narration is the use of foreign accents when the voice artist clearly cannot do it - leaving all Portuguese folks sounding like inspector cluso.

an excellent starting novel in the series

It's great for a first, plenty of action and many twists and turns. I'm looking forward to book two

Great

it's a shame that the initial communication between Carver and Rhodes (sp) was so similar to one between Reacher and his ex sergeant. I think this has led to some disappointed expectations for some listeners due to its likeness.
Carver is a different character to Reacher despite sharing their needs for solitude and difficulty maintaining relationships - traits I believe are shared by many ex-servicemen - especially those who are living on the streets.
There are many stories with these exceptionally able people as 'heroes' fighting against injustice and The Establishment. I enjoy this.

Typical ex-hard core soldier

a book very much along the "Reacher" genre, with some very obvious similarities ...... but it's still a very good story line that keeps you hooked and makes you want more. A very entertaining "listen", which in most is down to the voice acting skills of "Austin Rising". He gives all characters their own "voice", which really enhances the full experience.

I enjoyed it so much that I have already bought the rest of the books in the series .........

really drags you in
