I tend to go for authors I know, but thanks to Audible's recent offer of reduced price thrillers and crime novels I tried this author whose work is ne..Show More »w to me. I'll certainly be looking out for more by Quintin Jardine as I've just enjoyed 9 hours of an engrossing roller-coaster of a story with lots of twists and turns worthy of Robert Goddard at his best. Mr Jardine's style of writing suits being an audio recording as there's lots of dialogue. He has been well-served by Hilary Neville who narrates the story with verve, pronouncing the Scottish words as a native and, to my ears, convincingly got her tongue around a plethora of Spanish words and place-names. Most of the action takes place in Spain and I could feel the atmosphere of the country as I listened. Though a crime/thriller the author also spikes his lively-style of writing with flashes of humour. Thoroughly recommended.
I wasn't taken with the character of Primavera when she appeared in the Oz Blackstone books but in this new series she is really good. A romp around S..Show More »pain with her long lost cousin is unputdownable and the sexy honeyed voice of the reader Hilary Neville adds spice to the narrative. Most enjoyable!
I am a great fan of QJ, particularly Oz and Primavera. This book is read with great feeling and expression that makes it very difficult to put down. ..Show More »On more than one occasion i have sat in the car at the end of a journey just to see what happens next.
The way this story has been written it does not matter if you have not read the earlier books. The family characters are re-introduced with just enough biography to identify who they are and the relationships.
I can't recommend this strongly enough. Brilliant, enjoyable and please write and record some more soon.
