I can virtually guarantee that you will never have encountered as odd a story as this. I couldn't put it down, because the setting was so peculiar, an..Show More »d because I had no idea what was happening. This may not sound like much of a recommendation, but trust me - it's addictive!
I have read all three volumes of the trilogy on my Kindle, so I was interested to find out how they would work as audiobooks. The answer is, very well - with a couple of reservations. I was surprised to hear an American reader, because the narrator clearly appears to be English (English slang, referencing UK TV shows, Guy Fawkes etc). The reader also puts rather odd stresses on words and sentences at times. However, he does a very good job of giving the characters different voices, and I enjoyed his performance overall.
Do give this a try. You may never have heard of the writer, but don't let that put you off. If you like inventive, speculative fiction with a dystopian twist, this is one you'll love.
I received a free copy of the audiobook from the author, but this is an unbiased review.
It's very difficult to review this book without spoilers, as it's he middle book of a trilogy. I will have to content myself with saying that the unus..Show More »ual events of the first book are more fully explained in this volume, but the more we find out about the narrator and this weird dystopian landscape, the more questions we have... Like the first book of the trilogy, this is gripping and inventive, and I urge you to listen to it - but not before you listen to the first volume!
