I actually enjoyed the storyline of Halfway to the Grave and would recommend it as a read but I found that the dreadful English Mockney accent Tavia G..Show More »ilbert adopted for Bones just spoiled my whole listening experience - if only she'd stuck to her normal accent, the whole thing would have been much more enjoyable. Regrettably I won't be downloading the follow-ups because of this.
With every new installment, this series becomes more edictive and more impossible to put down. Jeaniene Frost blends great characters, even if they ar..Show More »en't always likeable, with passion, romance and humour. This author writes with a zeal and passion that just carries the reader along with it. This book has its fair share of violent moments and I have to say that the good guys' version of 'justice' is questionable and at times hard to credit with characters you like, but this series really is a must for vampire fiction lovers.
Makes more sense if you've read/heard the earlier books in this entertaining vampire series. Enjoyable story with more on Cat and Bones' relationship...Show More » Characters who've appeared in the Night Huntress World series books 1 and 2 also appear fairly briefly (but with adequate explanation if you haven't read those). My only problem with the audiobooks is that this narrator makes Bones (a Londoner from the early 1800s) sound like the Artful Dodger (from Oliver Twist), with an improbably high and camp Cockney voice which I just can't match with the character in the book. I expected a voice a bit more like Vinnie Jones in "Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels"! Spade, however, an English gentleman (a baronet) from the same period, gets a civilised deeper voice with a BBC accent, which is done well and is much easier to listen to. My 4 stars are for the book itself and the mostly very appropriate narration but it would have had 5 stars with a better voice for Bones.
loved it...loved it loved it!!... have been reading all 6 books... and just love cat and bones... and the rest of the characters!! so funny at time t..Show More »hat you cant help laughing out loud!!! the romance between cat and bones is brillent,i'm just sad now that its all over!!!! if you love vampire books with romance these are the books... thank you, brillent read........
Jeaniene frost is always a great listen, this story fits in between one of the night huntress novellas so only listen if you already know the previous..Show More » ones otherwise you are going to be totally confused and it explains some of the stuff mentioned in the next book. As always the narrator is brilliant and captures all the characters perfectly especially bones, and the story has a lovely flow to it.
The story is of cat & bones celebrating a Xmas with friends (those of the main group of bones's line) and "family". A mysterious guest comes to the Xmas celebrations with troublesome consequences following, causing at several emotion scenes especially when bones nearly kills cat!! So moving!!! Despite I am aware there was another book after this I still questioned whether the whole gang is able to survive it? So I am not going to give anymore away ..... Hurry up and find somewhere quiet so that you can listen to this relatively short story (compared with others in series) and go on an emotional roller coaster of tear, laughter and held breath in dubious expectation!
I brought this based on other readers reviews but I honestly was not expecting much. I thought this was an attempt to get more money off the readers b..Show More »y feeding them scraps left over from the series. How wrong was I. These outtakes were not scraps ....they could have been & in my view should have been in the original series. They add depth to the story, all well written & are not any 'left overs' on a cutting room floor. To say I loved it is an understatement. Nothing left me disappointed & I loved the author's comments. A real gem
