Two young cousins, Ethan and Calum (Cal), spend their summer vacations and holidays at their grandparent's ranch in the Texas Hill Country. In this book, Ethan finds a Blue Heeler puppy with a gray, ghost-like face, and names him Gus the Ghost-Face Dog. Cal already has a huge yellow Labrador Retriever named Luke.

Mysteries is the fifth book in the Gus the Ghost-Face Dog Series. Five cousins and their dogs spend their school vacations at their grandparents’ ranch in the Texas Hill Country. They have discovered a secret passage to the past whenever they go to sleep next to the old pioneer ruins. When they find a carved message in an old oak tree from a pioneer friend Ethan met on a previous time travel trip, the kids decide to go back in time to help...where they encounter a very dangerous situation.

The two cousins Ethan and Calum, who had spent so much of their summer vacations and holidays at their grandparents’ ranch through the years, were growing up. They would soon be going to college and getting jobs. Ethan’s younger siblings, Logan and Elyssa, and Cal’s younger sister, Cara, were also teenagers. They did not want their carefree days of going on exciting ranch adventures and making interesting discoveries to ever end. 

This book combines the characters from the “Gus, the Ghost-Face Dog” series with the characters from “The Dance Team Detectives.” Both sets of characters have a family connection and visit the same family ranch. The characters are older now, and their adventures are even more challenging. In the first two stories, the Mitchell siblings and cousins investigate the theft of a priceless family heirloom, and then attempt to rescue herds of wildlife from poachers.
