Shakedown! Summary

According to the legend, people fall in love when the moon’s reflection on the water is disturbed at midnight. Is it merely a marketing ploy contrived by Resort Owner Wil Cane, or is the legend true? Jory Cane and Raine Whitehouse find out in Shakedown! Book One of the Diamond River Series.

Enigmatic Jory Cane offers Raine a counseling job, working with teens during summer camp at his family’s resort in Diamond River, Oklahoma. For Raine, the job comes with two perks: a respite from her burgeoning clinic in Fort Worth, and hopes to rekindle a relationship with her sister who lives in Diamond River.

Jory and Raine have more in common than they realize. However, since Jory isn’t the only one with a deep, dark secret, his second chance at love might demand more than he can give. As grieving widower, could he use the counselor’s services?

Raine heads to Diamond River, Oklahoma, only to find things with the resort’s owner getting a little too cozy. Raine wants answers, but Jory isn’t offering any. Plus, a special, yet needy client that she left in Fort Worth with her colleague, Dr. Harold Thomas, is showing signs of aggression—not good. And where is her sister, Sasha, for goodness sakes?

A business owner reported seeing Sasha leaving town with a man in a Porsche, but she hasn’t shown up for work in several days, and as usual, she isn’t answering her phone. Raine knows Sasha has pulled stunts like this before, and so she focuses on her job at the resort.

Just as she is about to help the teens who will be coming in for summer counseling, something happens—an “accident” that could leave her paralyzed, or worse! Someone is after Psychologist Raine Whitehouse, and the list of suspects is long. God is willing to give Jory and Raine His best plan, but will the shakedown at Diamond River ruin it?
