Owen Kiskaddon first came to the court of the formidable King Severn as a prisoner, winning favor with the stormy monarch by masquerading as a boy truly blessed by the Fountain. Nine years hence, the once-fearful Owen has grown into a confident young man, mentored in battle and politics by Duke Horwath and deeply in love with his childhood friend, the duke's granddaughter. But the blissful future Owen and Elysabeth Mortimer anticipate seems doomed by the king's machinations.
A pretender to Severn's throne has vowed to seize the crown of Kingfountain. But Severn means to combat the threat by using Elysabeth as bait to snare the imposter - and forcing Owen, as a pawn in the dangerous charade, to choose between duty and devotion. With poisoners and spies circling ominously, and war looming on the horizon, Owen must make painful sacrifices to beat back the advancing shadows of death and disaster. Will Owen's conflicted heart follow the king's path or will he risk everything for love?

"great listen and story "
a really good follow up to the previous book, with more intriguing characters, love and sadness. give it a listen or read if you liked the first book
"Love this Series!"
The boy's growth to manhood has come at a great cost for him. I feel the author has truly depicted the dilemma of political, strategic marriages that royal families had to endure. The character are strong and engaging. I look forward to the next book
I am ruined for any other author or narrator. This series has me enthralled! Kate Rudd reads as I would read to myself. Give me more PLEASE
I'm writing from my phn, so this will be brief.
What sets this series apart from other fantasy type series is that there are no good/ evil characters. The paths chosen are due to life, circumstance, and how each accepts their lot in life. Life isn't fair, and the outcome of an individual is determined by how they take what's given to them and move ahead.
This is such a thought provoking Trilogy.
"Upset about certain choices but still invested in the characters (Spoiler Alert)"
((Spoiler alert))I hate to give a negative review on a book that I loved except for one choice made by the author. But I am really thinking about quitting the series now and never reading the final book even though I already own it. I know it's the authors right to make the ultimate decisions that affect their characters but damn why did he have to go and rip out Owens heart. I love Mr Wheelers other books but I absolutely despise the choice of ripping Evvie and Owen apart. Oh well I will most likely read the final book but this has to be, in my opinion, one of the worst choices an author has made for his characters in my recent reading history.
"This is the second book in the series"
I'm starting the third book in the series I am interested in how it finalizes
This book is well written and is very detailed like the first it leaves you wanting !more and more totally worth it!
Loved it and can't wait to start the third book. great story and great reading.
"Classic fantasy kingdom"
This is the second book of the Kingfountain trilogy. This book is actually better than the first one, I really like the characters and the names that the author has chosen for them. The author paints a clear picture in my mind with tales of magic, battles, love and loyalty. The audio book is very good, the narrator does an awesome job with voice technique. I look forward to the next book
