well researched compelling account of covid. This is an important book and I hope the politicians and other journalists to take this forward and hold those responsible in the blocking or subverting the truth to legal account.

Investigative journalism at its best and bravest.

A really fascinating account unpicking the origins of COVID 19. Rich in detail it leads one to conclude that it is much more likely than not that the virus escaped from a Wuhan laboratory.

Many of the actors in this appalling tragedy do not come out well. It is apparent that the US funding of the highly risky "gain of function" work to engineer viruses to make them more pathogenic, and/or infectious to humans, gave them a very strong incentive to "rubbish" the theory that the virus could have escaped from a laboratory. At the time the US felt that this work was better done in China than closer to home, as if , in a global economy, this would make it safer for the US - the ill-fated decision did make a difference, the pandemic is almost certainly far worse and prolonged than it would have been had it originated from a lab escape in the US.

The social media still have questions to answer for their stance with Facebook, in particular, censoring any suggestion that the virus was not a natural zoonotic infection.

Researchers had conflicts of interest, as did the WHO, and when prestigious , supposedly impartial journals like the Lancet, publish opinionated, scientifically specious letters from those with strong conflicting interests then trust in the scientific method and scientists, suffers.

Despite the group think and propaganda that the laboratory origin possibility is just a right wing conspiracy theory it is interesting that the vast majority of reviews of this book are very positive (92% are 4 or 5 star on 25 Oct 21). As is often the case, people are better informed and more intelligent than those in positions of power give them credit for.

In the UK the Government are still looking to China for a major role in both new nuclear build and in telecommunications, hopefully, this book will make the continuing re-assessment of their role more searching.

For me, one of the most poignant parts is in the acknowledgements where Sharri Markson says "As is the case for millions of families, the question of how the virus started is personal, with Max's mum Stella, my grandmother, passing away from COVID 19 in January 2021 while in a UK Nursing Home that didn't provide her with access to a doctor, a hospital or even fluids. She was, effectively, left to fend for herself without adequate medical care in a first world country"

The NHS and Care services in the UK continue to struggle.

If you know China, you should not be surprised.

I am just glad someone else has now outlined the almost comedic scenario: someone from the lab took an animal they used and sold it for money at what was essentially a game meat market.

If you have seen all the ways the CCP do things, and how the people under the CCP always manage to screw up, you would not be surprised.

Media collection and independent people

Have listened to many independent sources over the last couple of years and can vouch for half of what was mentioned in this book. I personally contracted a virus around Guy Fawkes day 2019 as a frontline worker outside London and never again threw the whole of the pandemic seeing thousands per hour working near a transport hub.

Lab Leak and CCP cover up.

Some reasons / circumstantial evidence to suggest it was a lab leak, most of which are covered in this excellent book.

1. WIV (Wuhan Institute of Virology) was reported for safety violations on multiple occasions.
2. The WIV is right in the centre of the geographic locations of the first cases in Wuhan.
3. A WIV photo actually shows a faulty fridge seal at the WIV.
4. China has had virus lab leaks in the past.
5. Lab leaks are not uncommon all over the world.
6. The 1978 UK Small Pox lab leak has much similarity to the current situation.
7. A massive spike in online readership in late 2019, relating to corona virus research.
8. Evidence of Road Blocks around the WIV in late 2019.
9. The possible Patient Zero - Huang Yan Ling. Actually worked at the WIV.
10. WIV lied about Huang Yan Ling and she is currently missing.
11. WIV staff got sick in late 2019 and were taken to hospital.
12. In Dec. 2019 and Jan. 2020, the CCP repeatedly tried to cover up the spread of the virus.
13. The CCP have repeated blocked scientific enquires made to the WIV.
14. P. Daszak lied about having “no competing interests” when claiming it was Zoonotic.
15. Feb. 2020. Daszak made bold claims it was zoonotic, well before any one had a chance to review the situation.
16. Head of WIV, Shi Zhengli at first admitted it was possible.
17. Shi Zhengli is an unstable person. She said the virus was “nature punishing the human race”
18. Shi Zhengli, told those claiming the virus may have come from her lab to “shut their stinking mouths”.
19. Researcher Yuri Deigin, provides compelling evidence of a lab made chimera structure to the virus.
20. China picked the 2021 WHO research team and Daszak was the only person from the USA allowed.
21. The WHO are corrupt and controlled by China. (See the TrustWHO documentary)
22. 66% increase in hospital car pack usage in October 2019 in Wuhan
23. The WHO origin report was delayed, suggesting serious disagreement within WHO about the contents.
24. WIV database was removed from the internet on Sept. 12, 2019, three months before the official start of the outbreak.

Reasons against a Lab Leak.
1. Previous SARS outbreaks came from host animals. However no host animal has been found to date, despite the most intense search in the history of the world.
2. Err, there aren’t any more reasons against a Lab Leak.

Everyone should read this

An astonishing story detailing minute by minute the tragic confusion and failure of global public health authorities and governments to stop the spread of COVID-19. But beyond this, the book is a comprehensive investigation of the even darker story of deliberate cover-up in China and the substantial circumstantial evidence that the outbreak originated in some way from the activities of the Wuhan Institute of Virology or other Wuhan laboratories that collected and experimented on bat coronaviruses. The coincidence of Covid-19 originating in Wuhan, a major world centre for bat coronavirus research, has always seemed difficult to explain away and this book provides details of the scientific evidence and the many risky activities that could have led to the pandemic, while remaining balanced in its conclusions. But until we see evidence of direct transmission of the virus from an animal host, not forthcoming so far, an accidental laboratory-related leak seems the most likely cause of the disaster that has caused misery to so many.

This book, despite its length and technicalities that at times were hard to comprehend should be essential reading/listening for all. Especially those blinkered to the origins of the pandemic. Bravo.
