Summary

A long weekend in Dublin. What could possibly go wrong?

John Milton is working in a hotel kitchen while searching for information on the Group Fifteen agent who betrayed him in Russia. His plans are upended when a deadly shooting places an innocent young girl in his path. Aided by an enigmatic woman he meets in the hotel, he rescues the girl and plunges headfirst into a deadly feud between two criminal families feuding in the run-up to a high-stakes MMA fight.

In the underbelly of the city, where alliances are as brittle as glass, Milton must navigate through treacherous secrets and betrayals, ensuring the safety of the girl while locating the only person who can clear his name. The fight draws closer and the stakes are raised—survival becomes a race against time.

In a world where loyalty comes with a price, and the truth is often disguised, Milton will have to use all his wits and skills to protect the innocent, uncover the truth, and make it out alive.

Dublin.

Live in Dublin. This is very true to the city and environment. A good story, well told.

A good read.

Very good story line but a little rushed at the end. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Not the best episode.

A bit of a lack lustre book in the series for me.
Some of the accents were incredibly irritating and a lot of going over the same stuff.
Hopefully it has set up a better next episode.

Not up to standard

Mark Dawson’s John Milton series has been fantastic and I was really looking forward to listening to his latest escapades in “Uppercut”. Sadly, as the first of a two book mini series, this was the weakest John Milton book of all. Obviously, without knowing what is in the second book, I think Uppercut would have been a good short story as an introduction to Milton trying to clear his name by recovering control.

I don’t know whether it was intentional on Mark Dawson’s part, but there was some interesting use of language which related to “Down in the tube station” by The Jam. Did anyone else notice this?

Hopefully, the next book will go back to being the great listen I have come to expect. On a positive note, as always, a superb performance by David Thorpe - where do you get all those accents and voices?

Leaves you wanting more.

Storyline is gripping, keeps you wondering. Plot twist after plot twist. Bad language is increasing from previous books but still can’t stop listening. I think I’d recognise the narrator just from his voice. Can’t wait for next in the series. Please let it be soon.

Entertaining and well read

I like this series a great deal. You can’t help but want John Milton to succeed. He is an admirable character made more likeable because of his flaws. David Thorpe does not get the accents perfect but his voice is very easy to listen to.
