The Dark Side of Disney reveals all of the tips, tricks, scams, and stories that THEY don't want you to know about! Unabashedly unafraid of offending the family-oriented audiences catered to by other Disney travel guides, author Leonard Kinsey gives intrepid travelers access to the seamy, raunchy, and often hilarious underbelly of Walt Disney World.
From cautionary tales of scoring illegal tickets, to thrilling accounts of exploring off-limits areas, to chronicles of drug-induced debauchery, this completely unauthorized guidebook will change the way you think about vacationing at "The Happiest Place on Earth".

I would definitely listen to this Audiobook again, the next time I visit a Disney park. The insight that it gives you into the hidden world of activities that can be found in-and-around the parks, ensures that anyone can have fun on a Disney vacation.
Not sure. It's a bit of a unique book.
Think "travel guide with an 18+ rating" and you're pretty close.
He brings life to the book, as many of the tips detailed by the author (Leonard Kinsey) are backed up by anecdotes that work best when told in spoken-word as opposed to written down.
A few good laughs. And certainly a couple of moments where I found myself saying "What?! you can't do that at Disney!" only to find a community of people recommending the same.
It's rare to find a travel guide that isn't written in a cold, straight-to-the-point way, but this one is written with emotion and a lot of thought, like it were a friend recommending a place they visited on vacation. It's not long before you realise that the author isn't simply writing this book to make some pocket-change, but rather, to impart his back-room knowledge of the parks and his love for finding these short-cuts and secrets.
I haven't visited any of the parks after listening to this book, so I haven't been able to put it's tips into practice yet; but It seems like a great companion to a Disney experience that can be enjoyed as an adult.
This is a no holds barred insight from the mind of someone who clearly enjoys Disney, but who has no regard for rules, laws or regulations, and with that mindset offers you some down and dirty tricks and tips to jump through all sorts of loopholes which will not only save you time and money, but gives a big finger up to the corporate side of the mouse in the process.
Most of the tips are great, and should be used by everyone (eg avoiding the ticket touting scams and seedy time share schemes) and other tips (such as pretending to be disabled to gain benefits) I won't be doing, and I will let you decide whether that steps over your own personal moral barometer. It does for me.
In addition to the dodgy tips and tricks, the author also intersperses these with fascinating accounts of some of his many WDW adventures (such as illegally trespassing into the backstage areas of Disney) which are often also very funny (especially when he talks about taking his mother through the famous utilidors)
In summary, whether you are shocked, grateful or just downright disgusted, you have to applaud the author for having the balls to put down on paper some of the sneaky tricks many Disney World visitors have been getting away with for years.
"You Have Been Misled!!"
There are no secrets here. The author leads you to believe that there is something here but there just simply is not. It is about him and his friends going behind the scenes and seeing what was there. There is no one caught having sex or taking drug or anything of the sort. It is what you expect from an approved Disney book. It was a waste to even get the book.
"Outdated and pointless"
Unfortunately, as pointed out by the author, this book is completely out of date. Disney has corrected almost every hint/tip in here. The author uses the f word as a comedic tool that gets old quick. A lot of the things in this book are things I figured out for myself over the years... and some things I figured out much better solutions. I think this book takes the fun out of making the best out of Disney. My husband and I go every month and are always finding new non-park activities to keep it interesting. I appreciate the author's intentions and love of Disney, but this just seems like a frat guys guide to acting like an ass at WDW.
"Low rating based on out of date info"
It is hard to keep up with Disney as they change things very often. Most of the $ saving strategies detailed here are no longer viable.
The Darkside of Disney is a must read and must-have for any adult Disney fan...especially those who loves just a bit of mischief. The stories are unique and interesting and step aside from some of the other written works based on the park. I purchased my audio copyless than one year ago and have listen to it at least six times HIGHLY RECOMMEND
"great interesting information"
I loved it, Ijust wish it was longer. Great information on saving money at Disney, some questionable and some legit. much more than hacks in this one!
"Love this book. Very funny, and great stories."
I loved reading about all the naughty things done at the parks, and the great stories everyone had. A lot of great pointers I'll have to remember.
"Slightly misleading title"
I was entertained at first, but once I realized this was more of a half-rate guidebook themed listen, it became pretty boring. The "tips" listed in here aren't all that useful, only the anecdotes that accompany some of the tips are amusing. Be warned, this is 100% about Disney World in Florida, and the information within is questionably useful even to some who plan to travel there. It just wasn't very entertaining or relevant.
"Short but very entertaining for adult Disney fand"
Narration was good, author seems to love Disney and offers a different view, enjoyed it. Would have liked more.
"Useless. Dated. Lowbrow. Tripe"
Yes. He does his best to capture the author's spirit, unfortunately.
Empassioned. Entertaining. Aware.
Rather than provide fun stories, this batch of nerdy tripe focuses on silly ways to shave a dollar or two from the cost of a Walt Disney World visit. Most of the suggestions are either idiotic common-sense or woefully outdated. Furthermore, in that it is misrepresented by the title art as a group of stories, it fails as a tip book. Not a valuable suggestion inside for anyone other than a beer-belching cheapskate.
"Very interesting information"
Yes. I actually listened to it several times. There is tons of us full
Information and I kept marking were things we're so I could go back and make notes.
There is some very usefully information
He has a great voice
It was a great book full of great info but it also had some useless and even illegal info in it as well. All in all I'd say I really enjoyed it and plan on using Tons of the info from the book on our honeymoon at Disney. Thank you.
