Summary

Nowadays, the world is full of people trying to tell us things. So much so that we have taught our brains not to pay much attention. After all, click the mouse, tap the screen, flick the channel and it’s on to the next thing. But Dave Gorman thinks it’s time to have a closer look, to find out how much nonsense we tacitly accept.

Suspicious adverts, baffling newspaper headlines, fake twitter, endless cat videos, insane TV shows where the presenters ask the same questions over and over.…

Can we even hear ourselves think over the rising din? Or is there just too much information?

Read by Dave Gorman himself.

Too Much Information

Would you consider the audio edition of Too Much Information to be better than the print version?

I briefly borrowed the print version from the library then purchased the audio book, so who knows? The beauty of the audio version is that I could carry it around the house and play it whilst completing chores. The short chapter and theme of this book make it perfect for this manner of consumption because reading it in short bursts is more effective.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

It wasn't a novel, so this question is somewhat superfluous.

What does Dave Gorman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His accent, cadence and intonation.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I wish that DG had written more original material - much of the book follows similar themes to S2 of his Dave (The Cable Channel) show 'Modern Life Is Goodish, which is a shame. Without the accompanying visuals the whole thing is a bit 'meh'.

Any additional comments?

We know that you inherently detest The Daily Mail, but you did labour the point somewhat. I don't particularly like it either, but millions of people disagree with us.

I tend to prefer DG's books when they're centred around a quest/theme etc.

rather dull

dave gorman is a genius, his other works such as googlewack, are you dave gorman are incredible and the story really pulls you in.

this book is boring, I don't really understand the point or reason for it to exist.

the modern life is goodish tv show really works as it has a visual aid, this doesn't.

Clever & insightful book about badger glove puppet

This is absolutely fantastic. Equal parts of cynicism and wet. Eloquently written and read by Dave this kept me thoroughly engaged throughout. At times hilarious and thought provoking at other I've emerged wiser and more skeptical of the digital world around me.

Dave Gorman does it again!

What did you like most about Too Much Information?

As usual Dave Gorman makes us think critically about modern life and shines a light on the absurdities which we take for granted.

What did you like best about this story?

As well as his originality of thought Dave's narration brings a lightness of touch to his ideas. Realisation that in Modern life we achieve less with more information than ever before is sobering as is the idea that our working life and private life have melded, and if we are not careful, to our ultimate detriment.

Delete those battery depleting sleep apps, this is all you need, found this book and the tone perfect for helping me drift off. Not a bad review, I have really struggled to sleep with having anxiety and this sent me out like a light... thanks Dave.

Badgers, glove puppets, and badger glove puppets.

If you're into badger glove puppets then this is the book for you!

Dave's narration is fabulously performed. It doesn't feel like an audiobook. much more like a cross between a stand up show and a chat in a pub. It's is written in a dry sorry style one would expect of Gorman. The content is a bit off though. Many of the things discussed aren't thoroughly thought through. but it is an entertaining listen nonetheless.
