Summary

John Scott hiked the 2,160-mile Appalachian Trail to celebrate his life.

As a teenage boy in 1970s Scotland, he was fascinated by US politics and culture. John explores this fascination as he hikes through 14 states, from Georgia to Maine.

Over miles and months, he realises it is the land and people which now captivate him.

To the Woods is a walk through a man's life.

A Fantastic Journey

I always think the sign of a good book is not wanting it to end and how long it stays with you once you have finished it. With this wonderful book, I felt like I was on the trail with John sharing his highs and lows. An incredible achievement, an incredible book and incredible journey. Highly recommend.

Very enjoyable and engaging.

I've become obsessed with the AT. I've spent hours on You Tube watching videos of Through-hikers and their journeys and spent hours listening to a number of audiobooks by Through-hikers.
I loved this book. It's not a shelter by shelter, trail-town by trail-town story but an honest journey through America. It might not suit everyone west of the Atlantic but you can't please everyone!
