Summary
What’s it like to live forever?
Alicia is about to find out...
Just because you don’t grow old, it doesn't mean you won’t die a violent death at the hands of your broodmates. Or the Queen who laid your egg.
From the moment she hatches in the Derwent Sídhe, Alicia is fighting. For her life. To gain position. To become an adult.
And then, the moment she drops her wings and emerges, the fun really starts.
In this new instalment of Mark Hayden’s King’s Watch series, we finally get to hear from the Fae in their own words. They’ve played a huge part in Conrad Clarke’s life, and now they’re going to be staying in his house. Alicia’s story is told from within: what’s it like to have magick in your bones? How do the Fae really feel about mortals? What does it take to climb the greasy pole when your rivals are all immortal?
Alicia is the youngest Squire in the service of Princess Faith, and she is propelled into the heart of the biggest wedding in the world of magick this century: the joining together of the Dragonslayer and his consort. No pressure, then.
She fights to get on top of a bunch of unruly hens’ hairdos and just when she thinks she’s winning, the bottom falls out of her world.
She finds herself on her own, cut off from her People, about to become snake food and with nothing but a hairbrush to protect herself. Can she make a bid for freedom?
Woven in with Alicia’s story, we get a backstage pass to some of the events glossed over in Third Eye. What really happened at the hen do? How did Lucy’s car end up in the canal? And as for Mina and the stripper...
We also check in with Conrad and Mina on their Honeymoon in Valhalla, where Mina is not a happy bride. Not at first, anyway.
So find out how Alicia copes in the mad world of the wingless, and discover how Conrad plans to deal with the Akademia and grab a copy now.

Conrads visit to Valhall
I was disappointed that there was no real new story in this book. To much going back in time and filling out story about Alicia, pretty boring in my taste.

Another great story
I love the weaving of the different narratives, timelines and character plots into one cohesive story. It becomes richer by the second. It’s like looking at a theatre production from in the wings, when already you saw it from the audience perspective and just found out you missed half the performance first time round. Fantastic story and great characters again

A fun addition!
I enjoyed Alice’s story and the found the pace and content of the book was easier to follow than some of this series. Plus it was good to spend more time with some of characters Conrad doesn’t dwell on like Rachel and Faith.
I always wish there was more Hannah but I enjoyed the perspective of Alice - it felt like a fresh view of the people and the events of the previous book.

A book that didn't need to exist.
At the beginning of the last chapter when he opens with "If you'd like to know what happens during dinner", I thought he was going to continue with "You can find out in my next book, which is written from the point of view of a caterer at said dinner"..
That was pretty much this book. It didn't need to exist. A total break from the story, featuring a character that we didn't need to know about.
Only the last part where Conrad was featured did anything to forward the existing story.
I don't know if the author has run out of ideas, or is just trying to stretch things out. Worst book in the series by a country mile.

so tired of this wedding stuff
Really think the author has lost track of what people want from this series.
It's nice that Conrad got married but pretty much 2 books dedicated to telling stories about it and around it is far too much.
The story is written well enough but so little is actually happening to progress the Conrad Clark story.
Really hope the next books back on track or I'm out.

So much unnecessary detail
I enjoyed this series in the beginning, but the book is padded out with far too much pointless detail. It doesn’t really add much to the bigger picture. I’m seriously wondering if I want to finish the series. It doesn’t help that there are too many characters for me to remember who they all are!
