Summary

For once, these men are the objects; I am the subject. Me, me, me.

Rosemary Mac Cabe was always a serial monogamist—never happier than when she was in a relationship or, at the very least, on the way to being in one. But in her desperate search for ‘the one’—from first love to first lust, through a series of disappointments and the searing sting of heartbreak—she learned that finding love might mean losing herself along the way.

This Is Not About You is a life story in a series of love stories. About Henry, with the big nose and the lovely mom, with whom sex was like having a verruca frozen off in the doctor’s surgery: ‘uncomfortable, but I had entered into this willingly’. About Dan, with the goatee. About Luke, who gave her a split condom. About Frank, who was married…

But mostly, it’s about Rosemary, figuring out just how much she was willing to sacrifice for her happy ending.

Louise

Loved this witty and honest look back on the mistakes so many of us make in our youth and the lessons we take from them. A thoroughly enjoyable listen.

Easy listening, humorous & relatable!

I am an avid fan of Rosemary’s podcast with her sister so I knew I would enjoy this book. However, you don’t need to have a prerequisite to appreciate what a treat INAY is. It is humorous, compelling, emotive and relatable with tales of teenage dreams & eye opening realisations. I heavily lean on audiobooks to read anything as a busy mum of a 3 month old, but I got through Rosemary’s book in one sitting after cleaning the house! Completely recommend and looking forward to the next one 🤞🏼

Loved this book. Rosemary always brings such refreshing honesty and self-awareness to her writing. She talks about behaviours that everyone engages in but never admit to. Narration was perfect.

Great story that will resonate with all heterosexual women

Such a great record of dating and navigating all the red flags available out there. Great insight into how us females lose ourselves to accommodate a relationship, how we might jeopardise those all important friendships to fit a man into life and how we tolerate the most awful behaviour. Great lessons shared and to be heeded in a highly entertaining story. I wish Rosemary had even more dating stories to tell as I was sad to be finished it.

An amazing book!

I loved this book and particularly enjoyed it in the audio format due to the author's own narration, which really brings the story to life with her beautiful Irish accent and dry wit. I laughed out loud at points and was then deeply moved in the final two chapters. Rosemary has a true gift for writing. I am hoping for another book from her as soon as possible!

Funny, relatable and honest.

As an Irish woman in my early 40s I can relate so much to the author’s stories about dating and meeting men in Dublin, Ireland. Some chapters seemed a little repetitive at times. Good listen. Would recommend.

Very honest memoir

Great story, a bit low budget on the recording in terms of different sound quality at different times but over all a great juicy little number
