Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The audiobook of The Wee Free Men is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes and Steven Cree (Outlander; A Discovery of Witches) voices the Nac Mac Feegles. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.

Tiffany wants to be a witch when she grows up.

A proper one, with a pointy hat. And flying, she's always dreamed of flying (though it's cold up there, you have to wear really thick pants, two layers).

But she's worried Tiffany isn't a very 'witchy' name. And a witch has always protected Tiffany's land, to stop the nightmares getting through.

Now the nightmares have taken her brother, and it's up to her to get him back.

With a horde of unruly fairies at her disposal, Tiffany is not alone. And she is the twentieth granddaughter of her Granny Aching: shepherdess extraordinaire, and protector of the land.

Tiffany Aching. Now there's a rather good name for a witch.

The Wee Free Men is the first book in the Tiffany Aching series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.

The first book in the Discworld series - The Colour of Magic - was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Very good production

Overall very good -
Tiffany was good, Bill Nighy had about 3 lines, the Scottish actor playing the wee free men couldn’t roll his Rrrrr’s successfully

A joy to listen! Fantasic cast of actors

Narrators perform superbly, bringing all of the characters to life as individuals. Crivens!

Audio brings it's own helping of deliciousness to Pratchett's already wonderful book. I've read it on paper before, and this was even more entertaining!

Great book. Great narrators.

I think the new recordings are a very mixed bag. For example, I liked Andrew Serkis' performance of Small Gods quite a lot, but I really disliked the interpretation of the guy who did the Rincewind books (his characters sounded totally different from what I had always imagined and I felt like he was missing a lot of the humour). Steven Cree's performance in this is more like that of Serkis: I thought it was really good. However the star has to be Indira Varma's spectacular performance in the books she narrates. I have listened to her performance of all the 'Witches' series and now this first Tiffany Aching one and so far she has absolutely nailed every single one. All her characters are either just what I imagined (e.g. Nanny Ogg and Granny Weatherwax) or (in a few cases, such as Magrat or Tiffany) better than I had imagined. I can't praise the job she has done highly enough.
