Summary

Swashbuckling classic adventure, with an updated twist placing Milady in the role of narrator.

Young D'Artagnan arrives in Paris to join the King's elite guards but almost immediately finds he is duelling with some of the very men he has come to swear allegiance to - Porthos, Athos and Aramis, inseparable friends: the Three Musketeers.

Soon part of their close band, D'Artagnan's loyalty to his new allies puts him in the deadly path of Cardinal Richlieu's machinations. And when the young hero falls in love with the beautiful but inaccessible Constance, he finds himself in a world of murder, conspiracy and lies, with only the Musketeers to depend on.

Fantastic dramatisation of this classic...

What a superb dramatisation of Alexandre Dumas' classic.
A great story retold beautifully, with some fantastic acting alongside perfectly placed sound effects and music to really do justice to such a wonderful tale.
On this occasion, the story is retold by Milady de Winter, providing a novel twist to the tale.
I've really enjoyed Audible's dramatisations, and The Three Musketeers is truly an exceptional addition to the collection.

The Three Musketeers

It was an easy listen, good fun and the voice actors were very good , especially Sarah Whitehouse as M’lady .
I do wish I’d listened to the actual novel though , as it seems some modern woke attitudes had been inserted into the story , regarding M’Lady. I’m not sure there would have been much sympathy for the deadly harlot in the original .
A bit of a strange ending too.. well worth a listen tho , I did enjoy it .

Wonderful Swashbuckling Production!

This is such an enjoyable listen of a dramatisation of the well-known story of the Musketeers. It is cleverly turned the narration over to Milady de Winter. I got really swept up in the story which is testament to how well done the production was as Ive read the books and seen tand the movie and still I was engaged. A great comfort listen for rainy days.

loved it

Loved it. There is great dept to all of the characters especially to D'Artagnan. His gobshite attitude and bumpling attempts to meet and become one of the Musketeers is particularly memorable. There aren't enough hours in the day to fit in the duels he's challenged to.

My favourite scene

I shall go to war for you. I shall set England against France. I'll stir up Hugenots I shall set the British navy sailing. I'll see canons blazing. Why? Politics? No, because every inch of France I seize will bring me closer to you. Without a need for retreat. I shall be a conqueror. Like a thief in the night. I will put England and France like they haven't been since Agincourt. And when they declare me a hero I will turn politely away and survey my truer territory. And that territory will be this nakedness here.*

George Villiers, 1st Duke of Buckingham in Alexandre Dumas The Three Musketeers as adapted by Marty Ross for Audible (Ch4 18.40 )

Different to the films

Neither for better nor worse, the narrative structure is unlike that of more modern western culture, with few and small pauses between the beats of action and drama; therefore worthwhile listening to this even if you have already watched the various Hollywood versions. Also unlike Hollywood portrayals, unflinching in the consequences of combat or the extremes of emotion.

Best thing on the app!

This was probably the best audio book I have listened to so far, reminding me of the amazing story, while also having a very comedic side in some cases. A real book for everyone, a must read! * there was a bit of Sex though, lots so maybe not for younger years?* I absolutely loved it!

Great Fun

4 guys, swashbuckling, charming, flirting, sexing, drinking their way through a rather ridiculous drama filled story. Very entertaining!
