McCabe was fired from his position as deputy director of the FBI. McCabe started as a street agent in the FBI's New York field office, serving under director Louis Freeh. He became an expert in two kinds of investigations that are critical to American national security: Russian organized crime - which is inextricably linked to the Russian state - and terrorism. Under Director Robert Mueller, McCabe led the investigations of major attacks on American soil, including the Boston Marathon bombing, a plot to bomb the New York subways, and several narrowly averted bombings of aircraft. And under James Comey, McCabe was deeply involved in the controversial investigations of the Benghazi attack, the Clinton Foundation's activities, and Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server when she was secretary of state.
The Threat recounts in compelling detail the time between Donald Trump's November 2016 election and McCabe's firing, set against a pause-resisting narrative spanning two decades when the FBI's mission shifted to a new goal: preventing terrorist attacks on Americans. But as McCabe shows, right now the greatest threat to the United States comes from within, as President Trump and his administration ignore the law, attack democratic institutions, degrade human rights, and undermine the US Constitution that protects every citizen.

Inspiring. I would recommend this book to all interested in democracy and those who think corruption always rules. It doesn’t.
Inspired compelling we are reminded service is what runs a country, not greed. A great reminder to give of our best and care for each other.

Important to read for its sanity
Thankfully not all about trump as McCabe subtly creates his story about his time in FBI and what it should mean and stand for. I hope he sells millions of this book

The Threat
Superb account not only of McCabe's personal story but of how the FBI works. It illustrates the commitment, integrity and fortitude of the FBI and its agents and contrasts that with the self serving criminality of Trump and his administration which still poses a threat to the fundamental democracy of the USA and even to the stability of global status quo.

Brilliantly told story of an aberration.
Brilliant and well worth the time. A glimpse behind the curtain at the small man who is now the President of America and those who try to keep America safe, in very trying circumstances.

Cogent, very telling, quietly compelling...
Definitely the principled guy I want in the FBI - the story of his commitment to public service shone throughout. Sad for him that he was caught up in unprecedented circumstances for democracy in the USA but there is hope the Republic will survive the current onslaught with people like this holding the fabric of society together. I enjoyed the story and its telling and thoroughly recommend it.

Fascinating stuff.
I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did, McCabe is an excellent writer, a skill I suspect he honed writing thousands of reports during his time in the FBI.
The book covers his whole career, not just the Trump era and I really enjoyed reading about the way the FBI worked, particularly McCabe’s work on the 9/11 investigation and the Boston Marathon attack.
McCabe is never sensationalist, and lets the facts speak for themselves. When he reaches the Trump era, he conveys his interactions with the administration clearly and gives fascinating insights into the extremely unusual behaviour of Trump appointees. The meetings with Jeff Sessions were particularly chilling.
If you’re trying to make sense of these crazy times, this is an excellent book. McCabe is also an excellent narrator, I would be very happy to hear him read other non fiction books.
