Summary

For the first time in unabridged audio download comes Rosamunde Pilcher's phenomenal, heartwarming best seller, read by Hayley Atwell.

Artist's daughter Penelope Keeling can look back on a full and varied life: a Bohemian childhood in London and Cornwall, an unhappy wartime marriage, and the one man she truly loved. She has brought up three children - and learned to accept them as they are.

Yet she is far too energetic and independent to settle sweetly into pensioned-off old age. And when she discovers that her most treasured possession, her father's painting, The Shell Seekers, is now worth a small fortune, it is Penelope who must make the decisions that will determine whether her family can continue to survive as a family or be split apart.

A delightful treasure

This book was a delight, although a long listen I found myself captivated by the well written characters and couldn't wait for the next instalment. The narrator, Hayley Atwell is very easy to listen to. I will be putting more Rosamunde Pilcher books on my wish list.

Enjoyable story for any Pilcher fan

As always with Pilcher this is a story with characters that draw you into their World. Mixing a few timescales it tells a tale between the past and the present and I was sorry when it ended. The narrator has an odd style, sounding as if irritated by her task which I found equally irritating at first but I learned to live with it (along with some mispronounced common words) and overall I enjoyed the book a lot.

Gentle twists & turns

This story builds and flows so cleverly. There is the characters, looping stories and crafted style that all books should encompass

Another beautiful enchanting story by my fast becoming best author.
Wonderfully read by Hayley Atwell, who brought this story alive.

Lovely story.

Lovely story read the book many years ago. The narrator ruined the audible version, she seemed to be rushing through the book.

Beautiful story

I absolutely love this book. I’ve read it twice in the past. Unfortunately it was a little spoilt by the narrator rushing a lot of the time and with some strange pronunciation of certain words. This is such a wonderful storyline so beautifully written

A Proper Romance

A beautiful story, well told and narrated. RP develops her characters in a skillfully way and you very quickly invest your love, hopes and dreams in them.

A genuine, quaint story that keeps you listening

The story is fairly gentle but believable. No groundbreaking dramas or events but a lovely narrative well told which draws you in and makes you truly feel for the characters.

My only criticism would be of the narrator. Whilst beautifully read for the main, some characters had quiet voices and I found myself having to turn up the volume a lot to hear certain passages. Not disastrous but could do with some sound tweaking.

Enjoyed....

The story was a little disappointing, the narrators mispronunciations were a bit “off putting” but in general enjoyable.

Interesting but a bit disappointing.

This was an interesting source of information about the 2nd world war. Things that I had never before thought about. Maybe little things but they were obviously important. a for example I hadn't realised that it had been necessary sometimes to rip out the wool from an adult jumper to make a winter jumper for your child who had grown out of her last one.
I didn't really like the narration- it was sometimes hesitant too long gaps between one phrase and another. Also I am amazed that someone who sounded English had never seen a dahlias. She kept calling it a da lia instead of course a daylia. There were other obvious mistakes too a hearth is said harth not herth. Little things that irritate.
I did not find this overall production one of Rosamund Pilcher's best.
