Summary

We don't want to tell you too much about this book. It is a truly special story and we don't want to spoil it. Nevertheless, you need to know something, so we will just say this: It is extremely funny, but the African beach scene is horrific. The story starts there, but the book doesn't.

And it's what happens afterwards that is most important.

Once you have read it, you'll want to tell everyone about it. When you do, please don't tell them what happens either. The magic is in how it unfolds.

Beautifully written

The intelligence that has gone in to writing this novel is amazing. So beautifully written and read. Really enjoyed it.

Beautifully written, but disappointing ending

My review title sums it up. Beautiful story, funny, charming and thought-provoking. But it ended suddenly and with no ‘tying off’ of loose ends. That spoiled it for me.

A Truly Powerful Story

Breath taking story of Little Bee, Sarah & her family - at times shocking & horrific with the unimaginable treatment of another human being - A must read/listen

So beautiful

This book is simply amazing. So important, so beautifully written. I laughed, I cried, I am still completely mesmerized.

Not bad, but...

Well this book got off to a promising start, but then ran out of steam. I found Sarah very unlikable, she seemingly did nothing to save her marriage, didn't seem particularly grief stricken when Andrew died and then proceeded to take her young son into a potentially dangerous situation.
As usual when a book is surrounded by so much hype it fails to live up to it!

Beautifully written but...

I very much enjoyed this book. The writing is sublime at times and the story was gripping from the off... but then it became soapy melodrama half way in. So disappointing. Some reviewers here seem unhappy with the unresolved ending but I thought is was perfect. It's just a shame the second half couldn't deliver on what the first half set up. On the plus side the narrators are excellent.

A tale of non-judgement

This story was endearing in so many ways. Important issues covered, but the most heart warming of all was the non-judgemental acceptance of everybody's lot.

The narrators bring this book to life

this is one of the best audio books I have listened to. The story, plot and characterisation were all strong, but these two excellent narrators certainly brought this book to life.

Bring your tissues, a great read

Audio on this is brilliant. Makes it come alive. We had it for our book club and most of us really enjoyed it. There are parts that are slow, but the author has an amazing way of communicating the realities of life in every day for an asylum seeker. It was sad in many parts, but a beautiful read.
