Summary
If ever you worry about children today, spare a thought for the people of 19th century Britain, when knife-crime was rife and gangs of children roamed the streets and countryside, committing countless horrendous crimes including murder. There were poisoners, vengeful housemaids, disgruntled apprentices, unhappy siblings, and potential serial killers, some of whom were hanged but many of whom received remarkably lenient sentences. While politicians and the judiciary struggled to find the best means of deterring and dealing with violent juvenile offenders, a few were reformed but many quite simply "got away with murder".

Good storytelling but…
Excellent narration and there are lots of well researched, interesting, and very sad stories, however there is a problem with the layout of this book. The stories often blended together and there was a lack of clarity about where one story ended and another began. This book would have benefited from more chapters, or at least sub-headings, rather than trying to tie each story together which made the narrative feel rambling and somewhat difficult to follow. There were clear connections and variations on a theme in each chapter, which were valuable, however there could definitely be more structure.

Excellent
A very interesting yet slightly disturbing book, especially as it's about children. Superbly narrated. More of the same please.
